So I bought a Primary Arms 3X Deluxe magnifer/flip to side mount when they had their half off sale.

Well it arrived yesterday and I'm pretty bummed about it. It doesn't seem to have much eye relief at all. In order to get a clear picture I practically have to have my eye up against the lense.

I suppose I could pull my magpul buis off and slide it all the way back just above the charging handle but I'd like to keep my magpuls on.

Anyone else have a similar experience with this unit (or a positive one)? I know "you get what you pay for" but I was really happy with my PA Microdot and had high hopes for the magnifier.

Thanks!

Bill

How far from the magnifier does your eye actually need to be?

Every magnifier I've tried has a short eye relief. Even Aimpoints and Eotechs.

Primary Arms does have a long eye relief model that gives you more than some of the high dollar magnifiers. I haven't used it yet. I'm not much of a magnifier guy.

Probably within 1/2" inch (maybe closer).

according to primary arms website, it says that the eye relief for the magnifier is 1.5" so it sounds about right when you say you gotta get right up on it... although, sounds like you are literally up against it, huh?

on my aimpoint 3x, it is about 2.5" eye relief.

Yeah, I think eye relief on a setup with a magnifier is short. My Aimpoint setup is short, positioned right in front of the rear BUIS. I would not sacrifice my rear BUIS.

you got a pic of your set up bill? my magnifier sits above my BUIS, but will flip out of the way as needed. maybe you just gotta get a different mount.

agreed.. mine sits flush with the charging handle roughly in a vertical plane. Fits right over the rear BUIS (maybe a 1mm clearance). Rear BUIS is in last slot on rail. If I made it any closer, I would have to ditch the BUIS and that is not an option. But if I did, that would mean it would hang over the buffer tube and make using the charging handle a serious issue.. I would pass on that setup of course. So, as it is, this is the ideal and really only setup. Point is, I don't think this is a PA issue, but maybe a personal configuration issue? A setup picture would be nice as you make it sound like your magnifier does not/cannot sit over the rear BUIS?

oh... i looked at their site again. they have different magnifiers. they also have a long eye relief version that is 2.8". that is pretty much the same as the aimpoint. you have the short eye relief version?

where does your red dot co-witness? sounds like you may have the low mount.... but yeah a pic would help.

I'll try to snap a pic later and post it.

My magnifer rear eye piece is directly above the back end of the folded magpul buis - right above the charging handle. My dot is absolute co-witness.

The mount is as close to the magpul as I can get it (1 slot open between because if I move it back that slot it hits the magpul and won't mount properly).

Since I got it on sale for $84 I don't know if I will be able to exchange it and keep the price close to that deal. They already offered me an RMA and store credit. Not sure what I'm going to do.

sounds like you have proper setup & maximize the closeness of the maginfier and not compromise the utility of the BUIS, so then it just comes down to the human element that PA has nothing to do with.... it is not good eye relief for you.

As others have posted most AR red dot magnifiers are setup for nose to the charging handle shooting position. Literally nose on the charging handle. Many civilians don't shoot that way. That is why we developed the long eye relief version. We will be glad to take it back for a refund or apply a credit in exchange for the 3X long eye relief.

Marshall

Edit to add: The LER is a little more expensive. Adjust the focus without the red dot in place. That is just to adjust for minor difference in eyesight. Not meant to adjust in use.

This right here is why I've got some $$ burning a hole in my pocket for a Primary Arms 3X Compact Scope. I've yet to hear one person say they have gotten a raw deal from this outfit, as a matter of fact I got an "e-mail me back" notice from them by mistake the other day & no sooner did that show up I got another e-mail explaining that the e-mail had gone out as a mistake & to apologize for the mistake when the scope is back in stock PA will ship to me for FREE

Typical Primary Arms customer service.

Looking forward to the new 1-6x Marshall. Any sneak peeks? :D

Thanks for the reply Marshall. I have spoken with Brett and he arranged for an RMA for me. I appreciate you taking the time to respond!
