Primer Leakage

OCD1, no, I haven't.

I have, within the last few days, purchased Federal Small Pistol and CCI #500 SP primers.

I plan to continue to load .357's in all my brands of brass including the Remington nickle plated brass with the three brands of SP primers I now have (Remington 5 1/2, Federal SP, and CCI 500).

However, I won't be using any Remington brass cases again. Now if I begin to have problems with other brands of brass and primers, I think I'll just sell all my guns in that caliber.

Hopefully, I've got this problem behind me, but I surely wouldn't swear to it.

If I notice any problems with these other combinations, rest assured, I'll surely be posting here about them.

That's what I was getting to. How do you know 100% that it is the brass and not the primers??

At a glance,this may seem slightly off topic but I personally believe it to be relevant here.

This is an excellent thread and it got me to thinking.I did a search on the web to find reviews of reloading components by various reloaders.I spent quite some time with this.I focused on those who seem to be fairly experienced and shoot more than most.I also focused on the more recent reviews (the past 5 years) in comparison with the older reviews to note any apparent changes in quality control standards.

On at least one level,it became very revealing.Here is what I discovered.

Every brand of case as well as every brand of primer was spoken of in glowing terms by most but condemned as being sheer garbage by others.Every brand!!!!

I could go on and on with examples but see little point in doing so.Years ago I was told by a reloading supply dealer of many years experience that he once observed a batch of cases which split after only one firing.He said that nearly every one in the batch did that.This was a well respected brand.When I asked him what the brand was,he refused to tell me and now I understand why.He then went on to make it clear that he'd since used and seen used many thousands with no such problems.

I hope that no one misunderstands and thinks I'm trying to diminish the damage done to a shooter's gun.If it happened to me,I'd feel the same way and never use that brand again.

I'm only injecting this as a somewhat different perspective.

I was talking with a guy at the range a long time ago who also reloaded. I asked him what primers he was using, He said Winchester. And you he asked, I said CCI (which I just happened to have at the time) He looked at me with disgust and said I hate CCI, I asked him why? He just gave me a look and said because and went back to shooting.

I think you can find good and bad reviews about everything. I guess my question would be: If you find many more bad reviews about brand X as opposed to brand Y do you take that into consideration?

I was looking for exactly that.The bad vs the good review ratio was roughly the same regardless of brand.If brand X had a higher ratio of bad reviews than brand Y,it would have raised a red flag.

That was not what I found.
