In the past 3 weeks I have to been to several gun/reloading shops in Kansas, Nebraska and Missouri and have have found them all well stocked with multiple brands of rifle, pistol, and shotgun primers. Standard, magnum, large, small, what ever you want. The only place that was "dry" was Grafs.
The prices are all about $30.00/1000 which seems about $8-10 more than the last time I bought any quantity. At least its not $40.00. I'm guessing we won't see $20 primers again.

I remember the last two primer "shortages". They doubled from $7.00/1000 to $14.00/1000, and then you could buy all you wanted. Then they doubled again, to $26.00/1000. Now it seems that the supply is coming back, but at $32.00/1000 and up.

I believe your assumption is correct, we have seen the last of $20.00/1000 primers.

Primers

I remember when Hogdgon would throw in 10,000 primers if you bought a 50 lb. keg of powder! And the price per pound of powder was less than $2. Quite a bit less, as I recall!
I paid $28 a thousand for WIN WLP in Hutchinson, KS a few weeks ago.

I went to my local Cabelas last weekend because the advertised a large stock of CCI primers and all reloading supplies 20% off.. I was in there fast but a limit of 300 primers and they were out of small pistol. Also 20% did not count on primers. It seems to me to be hard to do any reloading without primers?
I should not have wasted my time plus the 300 I bought were $4.29 per 100. A real bargain! Brian

$4.29 per HUNDRED???

And only 300 at a time???

These folks haven't gotten the latest memo, have they? Around here, they are back to $30.00/k, and if there is a quantity limit (which I do not see much here in Central PA - "Pure Apalachia"), it is more like 5k per purchase.

I just recieved, in the past two weeks a huge back order of primers. Didn't need 'em but, in they came. $29 per K.
Yes, gone are the old days, but we all knew that would come. I'm still using old stock that I paid around $12 - $15 per K for, they have us over the barrel and they know it, question is how hard they gonna rock it?

Powder & primers

And I bet they shipped them to you in the same box and didn't charge an extra $20 "hazardous shipping" fee!
In those days, we lived only about 190 miles from KC, so I just picked up my own orders when we came through for some reason. Gas was only 25 cents a gallon, then, too! I also had a trucker friend that would pick up small orders.
The trouble was, I had four small boys, then, and no money to speak of! One time, I did manage to buy a 50 lb. keg of H870 for $26.95 and sold it off to my buddies that shot big, overbore cartridges, at $1 a pound. I hauled that home in the trunk of my car! Wish it had been 4831 or 4895, and I had kept it!
I guess that's what they mean when they talk about the good old days!

I just bought 3000 cci large pistols at my favorite gunshop for $28.99 per thousand and a 1000 cci shotgun primers for $26.99. They had all major brands and varaitions, but the winchester small rifles were a bit spendy at $32.99 per 1000.

Jeff,
I called Grafs on Friday...same story. I keep hoping they will come through!! Have a great weekend and don't forget to forget that graduation....just leave money and you can come have fun here in KC!!

Most everywhere online that I have found primers are selling them for about $33 per K. Thats high but when you tack on the $25 haz fee it makes it just to high for me. Best thing I have found is to try and buy at the smaller gun shops. Even though the price is about $33-$36 per K even with tax it is no worse and most of the time still a little cheaper than trying to buy online.

I'm also happy to report reduced prices in Sacramento CA. Gun show is the best, however even in stores they have dropped $1/100.

The Boise Cabelas has CCI primers for $27.99 per thousand. The shelf is full. Sportsman's still wants $36.00 per thousand.

I wonder why the Lacey,WA Cabelas is so much higher? I should not have bought any but I was there.

Last time I checked, Gouger Mt wanted $4.99/thou with no disc for a 1k brick.

Primers Prices

Texas Gun Show prices for rifle/pistol primers are hovering around $30/K at present, but you might not be able to get all sizes/types from the same seller. Seems like small rifle size is the scarcest, probably because of all the reloading demand for 5.56mm/.223. Fortunately, I stocked up on every size pre-Obama, at $14-15/K.

I agree the days of $20/1000 primers will probably never happen again. The lowest I've seen since the prices started to drop around here is $28.95/1000. JUST REMEMBER the companies who gouged you and continue to gouge you during this latest "shortage". $4.29/100, the nerve of Cablea's! Don't forget Gander Mountain, their current price is $4.99/100...
