I put myself on the alert list at Midway to be notified whenever they received more stock (small pistol primers $27.xx/1000) and today at 1330, got an email from them. However, I clicked the link and they were already sold out. Hope some of you fellas had better luck. I'm currently down to 2,000 small and 2,000 large pistol primes so if I don't find some soon will be shooting scrap ammo.

According to the time/date stamp on the e-mail I received my e-mail about 4 minutes earlier than that. You would think that all of the e-mails are sent at the same time. But I had the same result when I clicked the link. How in the blue blazes do they sell out that fast????

It is funny that they could sell out so fast? It was more like they were sold before you received the e-mail.

I would not get too crazy about primers right now unless you need them for reloading that you plan on doing between now and 2010. I am fairly sure we will have primers at $23 per thousand again by the end of the year.

I'm getting short also. I am on the list but never got a call or email from them. I still have over 5000 LP, but am not in total agreement that things will clear up by the end of the year.

www.powdervalleyinc.com i was put on a waiting list in about 2 wks. they where delivered.that was 3 months ago. you might try them.

From Powder Valley's web site - when you click on the 'primer' tab you'll see this:

At this time we are not taking any new backorders for primers that are not listed here. We currently have over 50 million primers on backorder. If you currently have a backorder in place your order will be processed as primers become available. Once we begin receiving more primers from the manufacturers and are able to begin filling current backorders we will update the website.

I've been out for over 2 months now. I don't stock pile, I shoot what I buy. I have had to stop shooting. Normally I go through 300 to 500 rounds of 40S&W per week. Im sitting on 500 roumds until this shortage ends. I have started playing with my Ruger Mini-14. I have found plenty of 223 ammo at $10. for 20. 223 shortage broke last month locally. Still not a lot of it, but enough. I am ready for normal again. If normal doesn't come soon, I will buy a bass boat. They have plenty of them, on sale.

I got lucky today. My hunting buddy just dropped off 2500 cci small pistol primers that his dad wanted to get rid of since he no longer reloads. My friend only shoots 45 and rifle. I gave him 50# of once fired 45 acp brass in exchange.

I'm still on backorder at Powder Valley for 5l small pistol and 1k large rifle. I notice they recently quit accepting backorders though.

I have about 15,000 rounds of .22 LR that I'll shoot until this stupidity ends. I even bought a new .22 rifle to play with, a Henry lever gun.

Those Henry's are a lot of fun!

I'm sorta short on .22 LR, I don't think I have more than 4500 rounds.

Some of that dates back to the early 1980s.

That surprises me, I was sure you were the type to have plenty of .22LR on hand...

That aint too bad.....I just scrounged through some of my old boxes and came up with a total of 3 550 packs and one of them has had some shot so around 1400rds is my guess.

Off topic, Paul does the Hornady L-N-L AP you bought have the ez-ject or wire eject and have you been able to get any shell plates?

I will check this to make sure but... I received an email yesterday that claims the amount of ammo sold in Jan.2009 is 18% of what was sold all of 2008. the military is buying millions of rds. the manufacturers make more money on loaded ammo than primers. Jan and Feb are the worst retail sales months so this figure is even more astounding.

exactly right. said it before on another thread. that' why they are called ammo companies, not primer companies.

Wow, 50 Million primers on back-order from one vendor at 3 cents each that's 1.5 million dollars in sales. I doubt any of the manufactures are holding back.
