I just received my Pro CORE 9mm a couple of weeks ago. I originally shot about 5 rounds out if it and it was fine, I had to put it away to shoot a rimfire match. Today I took my pro to the range to get some more trigger time with it. I put a couple rounds in the mag and loaded it up. I shot 2 rounds and it wouldn't shoot the 3rd. the trigger just pulled back and clicked. I cleared the gun and tried again. it shot the first round and clicked on the 2nd.This went on a couple of times before I went to the counter and bought a new box of ammo just to make sure it wasn't my ammo, and it did the same thing. I came home and took the firing pin out of it cleaned it re lubed and re assembled, still the same thing. I have never pulled the triggers apart on any of my M&P's so I didn't want to try it on this one. Any suggestions, before I send it back to S&W.

Thanks

Striker assembly should be clean and dry. If you have overlubed the gun, it can cause misfires.
First thing I would do is thoroughly clean and LIGHTLY lube the pistol according to the S&W instruction book, and check to be sure assembly is correct. If that doesn't help, call customer service.

OKFC05,
It was stock out of the box when I shot it. I never had it apart. When disassembled I lightly lubed the white plastic piece attached to the firing pin because it was lubed when I took it apart. That was all I lubed. I really think it's in the trigger, but I'm not sure.

Wow. Sorry to hear.

What kind of ammo was it?

I am no gunsmith, but I've heard some talk of 'light strikes' caused by a mis-adjustment of the trigger somehow?

Might have to go back to S&W.

Sounds like a striker block or trigger bar problem. Try bending the candy cane shaped part of the trigger bar (trigger bar loop) open a slight bit.

With less than 20 rounds through it (my guess from your description) it sounds like something broke. OKFC05 is correct, the striker assembly should be completely dry (including the channel is resides in). I've got over 60K through my Core and it's never been lubed, but I don't think lube (or lack thereof) has anything to do with your condition. When it doesn't fire, is your trigger returning to the forward position? (I broke a return spring and the trigger would stay back and not reset the sear). We could guess at a lot of things but it would all be speculation. Maybe if you posted some pictures someone would spot something but I still am of the opinion that something broke and a trip back to S&W is in it's immediate future.

I would assume that if it clicked the trigger is returning to re engage the sear. Right? Unless the click is not coming from the firing pin.

did you check the primer for a strike? I know that my CORE will not fire hard primers. I reload everything and I had to change to Federal primers because they are the softest. since then, no problem.

I had some of my own reloads and I even purchased a brand new box of Magtech. Bothe loads were 115gr FMJ.
It wasn't the ammo the firing pin never hit it.

Guys,
Thank you all for the advice. I am going to bring it into my gunsmith tomorrow and see what he advises. I will keep you informed of the outcome. If there is an issue with something broken it will be going back to S&W, hopefully it is something that can be adjusted pretty easily.
Also, I tried to answer all of your posts and had a difficult time, I am new to forums and I'm not quite sure how to work this forum yet.
If anyone can instruct me on how to post a reply it would be greatly appreciated.

I just noticed your location, maybe it's the new single shot M&P Core  (sorry couldn't resist, hopefully the fix is easy)

Yeah Funny Bkreutz ! :) It's not easy getting M&P's around here anymore.
Hey but some good news. I took it into my local certified S&W gunsmith and he fixed the issue. It was the piece that actuates the sear. It wasn't bent properly from the factory. HE took it apart bent the tab and it works great. now the next test is to shoot it. but I have to wait for my ammo registration card to come in the mail before I can get anymore ammo!!! just kidding but we are fighting that as we speak.... Love this state.
