Keep looking, even the older S&W mags would be better.
I agree, and even then I told a couple of folks to whom I gave away some original 645 magazines that I'd only use them for range use, myself.

The magazines are at the heart of a pistol's reliable functioning.

I once gave a new-in-the-package magazine of the brand mentioned to a friend (it was given to me). I explained that I was only giving it to him for range use and we discussed magazine quality and different sources of magazines in general ...

He later told me that I didn't need to think of him if I ever came across any more of them, as the one was turning out to be more than sufficient for him to get in some practice with his malfunction clearance drills.

Just spend the money on new S&W magazines. Expensive? Yes. Worth it? You decide.

Mabe I'm just the lucky one,
But,
I have had three 10 rd. nickel ProMags for my 4506/4566 for a few years now
and have even used them in my 4516-2 and 4536. (They stick out a little).
Have also recently used them in my 4040PD, YES, .40 cal. as do the std. 45XX mags work as well.
I also have a couple for a Sig 230 and have never had any kind of a problem.
I got them all from Ebay (Remember those days).
Regards,
BM1

I have about 20 for my Sig 229 and have never had a problem. I did replace the springs as I find them to be on the light side.

Lots of folks badmouth them, but I can not complain about mine in my Sig. I have not tried them in any other pistols.

Steel Pro Mags have been 100% reliable in my Mini-14 and my CZ pistols. The polymer versions are not trustworthy, however, according to what I've read

I have dozens of Pro Mags for my 39-2...not the first bobble out of any of them...

JMOfartO:

In my limited experience I found Pro-Mags to be iffy.. I will say ProMag has great Customer Service as they replaced a new crappy HiPoint 995 carbine mag with a new one, no sweat, and even sent me a free dual mag holder for my trouble. (I originally bought two new Pro-mags, and one was perfect right out of the plastic wrap, and the second was terrible.)

Never heard of a bad MecGar... Period.

Now having been fair with ProMag I'm of the opinion that there are only two types of magazines I would personally buy for use in any firearm of mine..

1. Factory
2. MecGar

If you have ProMags and they have worked for you, great.. But if a person interested would "google" the subject, or use the "search" function on any firearm forum betcha' the majority of posts found would be negative.

It always amazes me that someone would spend the money on a (what I consider) a top quality firearm, such as a Sig, and then stuff a questionable aftermarket mag in it to save money. That logic escapes me.

If you stick to factory mags, or MecGar's you will be better served.

But, I'm just an opinionated old fart, so your mileage on this subject may vary.

Best Wishes,

Jesse

P.S. If you're laughing at the HiPoint 995 9mm carbine it means you've probably never owned or fired one.

I bought a couple because they were cheap for my my Sig P220. They actually work fine, but I wouldn't stake my life on them. There is just something about the cheap finish and that they stick in the pistol (they don't eject at all when the release is pushed). Definitely considering replacing the stock springs with Wolf.

Thanks to all of your learned counsel I have bought a total of 7 S+W factory mags for my CS9.I haven't had a single malfunction with my CS9 and I am not going to fix what isn't broken. My last factory mag I bought for 24 dollars on Guns America, well worth it.....God Bless......Mike
