Found this over the week-end and was very excited to obtain a 4 digit S/N until performing the dis-assembly for cleaning the internals this morning. I noticed the hammer was a little out of position and upon removing the side plate the hammer just came out of the revolver without releasing the tension from the mail spring. It functions like normal if the side plate is installed properly. Closer inspection revealed that the Hammer Pin is no longer affixed to the frame on the off side from the side plate and allows the hammer to fall out with the side plate removed. My question is: Is there a gunsmith qualified and equipped to re-install this pin? Since its age indicates that the revolver is a 1954 or 1955 ship I'm afraid the factory will not perform the repair although I have not checked with them. Thank You!

Just hung up talking to S&W Customer Service

They will not tackle any repairs for this "Old Revolver" so thanks for the suggestion S.C.Hunter. I'm still hoping for the repair, anyone know a Gunsmith who can competently perform this repair?
