problem with mag eject

Folks - I just received a "new" 39-2, and the magazine does not "pop"out or drop out like with my other 39-2. I switched magazines, and it is clear the problem is not with the pistol, but with the mag. This "new" mag is SW, looks exactly like my other one. Only difference I think is that the new one's spring seems a little softer/weaker (I also took the mag apart and cleaned everything, and the pistol itself). Question - could it be the spring being too weak does not "push" out the mag like it should? Would replacing the spring solve the problem? I haven't shot the pistol yet, so don't know if any issues with the mag there. Right now issue is it that it just stays in the frame (sometimes will come out maybe 1/4- 1/2 inch).

Will appreciate any thoughts you all might have (I did do a search, but couldn't find anything on this issue).

That could be a slightly bent feed lip also, the top left lip of the mag pushes up on the mag safety, and the mag safety (ejector) simultaneously pushes down against that part of the mag, if the mag is bent ever so slightly left or right, it will stick on the mag, keeping it from dropping free....if you only have this problem with one mag, I would suspect that is the case.....try inserting the mag with one round and then attempt to drop it, if it does not fall free, then it is a bent lip on the magazine.....

thanks, grif684. I tried that, but no luck.

While trying, I noticed that more than failing to eject, I could not slide it in without it getting stuck. In other words, it did not go in/out like my other mag, without any friction (until hitting the mag release, of course). It was like the mag was too big. Except I cannot for the life of me see any differences between the two mags, but there certainly was something going on (one mag worked fine in two 39-2s, the other mag did not work in either of them).

It would go in about 1.5 inches, then stop, unless I then pushed. So, feeling I had nothing to lose, I took out spring, follower, plate, etc. Then I whacked the mag with my plastic/rubber mallet, on the rounded part, the front side. I went up and down the mag, whacking that front part down. Viola, each time I tried then to insert the mag, it went in and out more easily.


So now I have it can slide in to the mag release without pushing, but still, when I push it all the way in, and press on the mag release, it still sticks and I have to pull it out. It does not look like there is any problem with the release. It depresses and gets out of the way when I look at it without the mag in. It just seems the mag is still sticking and getting held up.

Should I take it to a smith? Or toss? Or just use and know I have to pull out when the mag is empty?

Or is this a mag for another pistol? It is exactly like my other 39-2 mag, though.

A picture would help, but it sounds like a bent mag, even if flattened out slightly and not noticable to the naked eye, it's bent.....you could try to keep working on it with the mallet, but I would be inclined to retire it......

You can take something like white shoe polish over the mag and see where it is rubbing and work that area. If still no luck set it aside for a range mag and get some new ones. Nothing is more frustrating than a gun that doesn't work right when it's a simple problem with just a mag.

thanks for the comments. I plan on getting some other mags and not let this one get me bothered, though I will try the polish idea when I have some spare time. Appreciate your thoughts!
