I have a Model 19 that functions fine when not loaded, but hangs up during cycling when firing. Is there something I can check to fix this? Does S&W support repair of this item? Should I just call S&W?

Welcome to the forum.

Is there a chance that the gun has been fired with .38s and not cleaned?

A carbon ring in the chambers could be preventing the longer .357 mags from going all the way into the cylinder thus causing them to drag on the recoil shield.

That would be the first thing I checked. A very thorough cleaning of the cylinder may solve the problem. Also check for unburned powder or debris under the ejector star.

And welcome to the arcane world of revolver maintenance. The advice you got was a good first line of investigation for any balky revolver... don't ask me how I know!
