A good friend of mine was lamenting to me that he has had a terrible time with the Insight Laser on his year old S&W BodyGuard 38 38+p revolver. He tried to change the battery and the laser basically fell into pieces. He called S&W and they are sending him a whole new laser assembly. He commented that the person at S&W said that " they might be recalling" these. I told him I would post this on the board and see if anyone else has had similar problems w/ the laser on their BodyGuards. I will share these with him Thanks.

Yes, many problems with the factory lasers on the BG38's. Mostly with them not having enough adjustment to zero.
I keep telling S&W to sell the BG38 without the laser but they just wont listen.

I recently bought a Bodyguard 38. I have had no trouble with the use or adjustment with the laser sight. It does take a bit of patience to change the batteries and the design could be much better for battery replacement. Otherwise, it is a great little firearm. It is accurate for what it is and easy to use.
The trigger pull is quite stiff. I cannot find a spring replacement and the J Frame spring kits don't appear to work with the Bodyguard 38. Anyone have a spring replacement solution????

I don't know of any aftermarket springs for the BG38. I'm surprised you find the trigger to have a heavy pull. Most have remarked that the new lockwork desing of the BG38 is much easier to pull than the older, standard J frame design. You might want to have someone that is familiar with J frames try you new gun and make sure the action is working correctly.

I had a small problem with laser one. Returned & replaced by S&W. Fortunately I had found the correct laser adjustments earlier (the manual described a procedure for a sight that had been prepped at the factory. The procedure would not work until the prep had been done. The sight does require some delicate maneuvering to reinstall. Fortunately, it's an easy gun to clean and a damp cloth works on the polymer. The sight should not need frequent removal and reinstallation.
S&W published the correction then began setting sights before shipping the BG38 and only slight adjustment was needed. Then they reverted to this procedure on their site about the sight:
Both the gun and the sight have been working fine ever since. The sight is slightly inconvenient to switch on but the offside thumb, left on me, can activate the laser then slide down into the Jerry Miculek thumb-over-the-backstrap hold.
I use the laser to help train whatever hand eye coordination potential I have left. I alternate strings of 5, a cylinder full at a time, laser on, laser off at 7 yards at an 8-inch circle, a paper plate, or some such, as fast as I can sense I'm back on target.
Lots of dry firing and a lot of rounds down range have smoothed out the trigger and the laser during dry firing is instant information on the hand and eye thing. The cylinder release is truly ambidextrous. I think it's a good feature.
I have a 642 without a laser for EDC and I switch off between the two.

I bought my Bodyguard in Aug.2011 andwould check the laser operation momentarily every week or two, after a 1.5 to 2 months the battery would be dead, I contacted CS and they had me send the laser back, after 2 months of waiting I finally had one returned to me. Guess what, it's doing the same thing.......i don't know if they sent the same one back or not, maybe I should have marked it so I could tell but I'm not ahppy about this situation!
