Try searching on line for a copy of that cars owners manual. Should have that info on it. Most cars have that manual out there!

If not get on a Pontiac owners group and ask your question there

Sorry, but for 2004 and later Pontiacs you need their shop diagnostic tool, which I'm certain you don't want to buy.

$70 is not bad, considering our VW dealer wanted $250 to program a remote for my wife's old Passat.

You could try local locksmiths and hardware stores that advertise they program automotive remotes. Our local Ace Hardware does them, but the prices vary wildly based on the vehicle and I have no way of knowing if they are comparable to the local dealer. Ace could not program the Passat remote - or any other European remote for that matter - but GM is common.

Good luck.

I just bought a spare key with attached fob for my daughter’s 2006 Jeep Liberty that we bought used and only came with one. $220 from a trusted locksmith. The hard part was programming the remote, but programming the chip just to start it was also an ordeal. The shop needs a PIN which has to be pulled from the onboard memory.

Good luck . . .

My bad, when it said remote I thought he wanted info on programming the remote on the sun visor that can open garage doors, movable gates. To me the gizmo that starts the car or locks it is a FOB.

My last 5 vechicles have a garage remote and a Fob, they do totally different things.

From North Coast Keyless Website:
"SORRY, THERE ARE NO KEYLESS ENTRY REMOTE SELF-PROGRAMMING INSTRUCTIONS FOR THIS VEHICLE. (2007 Grand Prix)
The Manufacturer decided to not produce this vehicle with self-programming capabilities.
You must get an Automotive Locksmith to program the remote to your vehicle for you.
If your vehicle requires professional programming we tell you, so you’re not left with any doubt and searching all over the internet.
It’s still much cheaper to purchase a remote from NorthCoast Keyless and get it programmed by a Locksmith rather than buying from a Dealership!
We strongly recommend calling a Local Auto Locksmith for help here.

Well, the issue is that there are actual metal keys with lands and grooves that have a chip in them and must be programmed before it will start the car, and then the FOB must also be programmed to unlock the doors and run the panic alarm. I had a Honda with a real key separate from the FOB, and now I have a Jeep with the metal key attached to the FOB, like my daughter's Jeep. My son's KIA and my wife's Honda only have FOBS, but they also have valet keys hidden in the FOB. The FOB has many purposes . . .

2012 Ford Fusion. My wife, although she doesn't drive, had custody of the spare key fob...which she lost. I bought a new one and had it programmed at the dealership. well....last week she found the formerly "lost' one...and it no longer works. Haven't checked yet to see if the battery is dead or if it's no longer programmed to work on our car.

I think I remember taking the remote control that comes with the garage door opener to car with me, pointing it at the control on the visor while pushing open button on both at the same time. Or point the remote at the visor control, push open button and then push the open button on the visor. That was for an older Dodge vehicle but you could give it a try and see if that works. I would think they were pretty much basically the same back then. It was a few years ago but what have you go to lose? Good luck!

Generally if you need to program a new fob, you need to re-program any other fobs you already have at the same time. Same thing for garage door opener remotes (I have 4 of them for my garage door).

For many cars, YouTube is your friend if you need to program your car entry fob (or change the fob's battery), same for garage door opener remotes. But in this unfortunate situation for the 2007 Pontiac GP, no go. The few times I have needed to replace a car fob, I have ordered one from eBay, and those I have ordered included a simple sheet of directions on how to program it. far cheaper than a dealer or a locksmith.

OP, I’ve been out of automotive locksmithing for a year. Used to program a hell of a lot of keys and fobs.

Internet sales are not your friend unless they can guarantee the fob is OEM. Many, many customers made that mistake. And since we charged the customer either way they sometimes got mad at us. So we completely stopped attempting to program aftermarket fobs. We sold OEM only and never had a problem.

Find a reputable locksmith and call for a price. It may cost more but at least you will have some recourse if something goes wrong. With internet sales, your mostly on your own even if they offer a money back guarantee.

Why can't we just have damned mechanical key?

Robert

Oh, my God! How Neanderthal!!! Yeah, Heaven forbid they make something easy on a car! My radio says every once in a while something about taking your eyes off the road will make you wreck or something! Duh!
Don't even think you can get a new key & FOB for a 2010 Subaru! I tried at the dealer...I gave them my credit card and said can you please get me a spare key and FOB for this car??? (Two different things for this year & model.) They could not do it!
