This is Phase 1 of my M&P10 project.

MAGPUL Hardware: Stock, Pistol Grip, Sights, Hand-Guard

Jeff of "Grizzly Gun Works" sent me his new "The Hunter" Screw-On Muzzle Brake. It's a great "Breacher" as you can see, and it makes the rifle's recoil seem like I'm shooting 9mm ammo. Thanks Jeff !

Army Issue Bipod I found at a small Army Surplus Store for 40 smackers. Go figure...It's great !

NEXT: Saving up for an Eotech 552 XR308 Holo-Sight w/ BDC Reticle and a Magnifier.

Special thanks goes out to Ms. Danielle from Smith & Wesson.

She's beyond GREAT !

Hope you like the photos.

Haven't see one quite like this yet. The spikes on that muzzle look deadly. Looks good.

I Have a practically new 552 w/ 308 reticule im trying to sell if your interested. I'll give it to you for 2/3 what I bought it for because I etched my name on one side of the protective hood and my weapons name on the other (so army couldnt say it was theirs, I used it in afghanistan) But thats nothing removing 4 screws and some new duracoat wont fix.

PM sent regarding your offer "guffawk", but since I never received a return reply or a telephone call from you, sell your Eotech to someone else. Thanks you.

vfin ps. somebody remind me to ignore sales offers not contained in the "classified" section 8-)

Are you using the front and rear back up sights magpul mounted on your gas block? Not the iron ones? just curious? I want to try but im afraid they will melt.

Yes...smack dab on top of that small gas block rail, and trust me, they haven't (in your words) "Melted" after a hard day of shooting 175gr Lake City "LR" 7.62x51mm ammo...so you can safely avoid the extra weight (and inflated price) of the metal sights if you so choose.

Thanks for the reminder. I thought I had subscribed to that thread to see the outcome but apparently not.

What was required to mount the PRS stock?

An A2 tube for AR10 or AR15 (doesn't matter which) for non-collapsible stock, nothing more.

None of that "you need a spacer" chat that you may have read about in the "stock options" thread, and, I used same spring & and buffer from my original M&P10 rifle....operates flawlessly.

Recently I added a "Raptor" ambi-dexterous charging handle after noting the original charging handle was less than adequate as to size, durability, function and reliability.

I think this may hold true for some of the better ammo but I've heard of cycling problems with less quality.

I wonder why S&W would bother building and offering a spacer if they didn't see a need for it? I ordered a couple of the spacers to ensure factory preload on the spring.

You might be right on the mark Arkaden, since I only use Federal GoldMedal 175 MatchKing Sierra loads in 7.62x51mm and/or Lake City "LR" 175gr 7.62x51mm for shooting consistency.

Lesser quality than match grade might well be a problem without the spacer....so thanks for your astute comment !

vfin :::gonna get me a spacer in-place, just to be confident:::

are you saying your are using an A2 tube and not using a spacer?

I can't...and wont tell you about your rifle.... that's your business.
mine however, I can and will...

With an A2 tube my BCG would have crashed into the frame without using a spacer to insure the buffer would make first contact.
(see pictures in the stock options thread #19)

I am not an AR mechanic, but I know that a steel BCG is not meant to make contact with an aluminum frame

My A2 tube and rifle buffer, the spacer needed is approximately 5/16"

My A2 tube with OEM buffer, the space needed is approximately 1-15/16"

I would agree, that "breacher" muzzle brake looks deadly. What does it actually do, though (other than adding weight to the muzzle?) Is it actually designed to be used for breaching doors like those on police shotguns, and if yes, how? Does it harm your barrel/bore to use it? Curious minds...

I believe this says what it does... and I wouldn't hit this pencil barrel against any hard surfaces... Dead on or sideways.

Phase I M&P 10 Project

Addition of Eotech 552 XR308 w/ BDC Reticle, Night Vision Compatible.

Now to save for an Eotech Magnifier !

:::hope my wife isn't trolling this forum::: 8-)

If you haven't used one before, I hope the magnifier works out for you, for some folks they don't. You may find you'll have to lose your rear sight to use it as well, unless you change our your handguard and mount a free float rail.

Since you say you only use Federal GM 175 grain, or LC M118, it would seem to be a shame not to take advantage of those expensive rounds purposes, long range accuracy, by using an actual scope. But that's just me.

I went with a Leupold VX-6 1-6X on my Colt .308. I may do the same on my MP10, or I may just use a Vortex 1-4X I first had on the Colt. I'm not using either gun for 1000 yard stuff though.

I see no reason why my M&P 10 can't effectively reach out to 1,000 yd.

It's been highly accurate out to 600 yds and that's with an Eotech BDC Reticle mounted on it. If I one day mount a scope similar to that mentioned by "Elmer" (above comment), I'm certain this piece of Smith & Wesson high-tech genius, will come through for me quite effectively.
