Is anyone using Promag magazines with their M&Ps? I have a gen1 M&P 9. Move to a free state from Cali and would like to pick up a few 17rnd mags. With factory mags hard to find and expensive, I’ve been looking at Promag. Anyone have experience with them?

Pro mags are unreliable due to their under powered springs. They can be made reliable by getting some after market springs. (Wolff)

I've never tried a PMag in a handgun but they are well regarded for AR's . I have a couple PMags for my Glock 19 but they are still in the package .

I have also heard they are unreliable, but I have a couple 4500 series that I got with some other mags I purchased and they have worked ok but with their bad reputation I would not carry them.

So, “Pmags” are made by Magpul, not Promag. Pmag/Magpul are very good magazines. If Magpul made mags for M&Ps I’d buy them with very little hesitation.

I have a few for my M&Ps. They work fine, but I don't rely on them for carry. Springs aren't as strong, feed lips are sharp and finish on the back end - kind of rough.

There's another brand out there, ACT. Inexpensive. Fellow named Greg Cote has a website and is pretty well known for quality service & price. You may want to check AIM and CDNN. I picked up used M&P 45 ACP mags for $9.99 each.

Congratulations on the move. 8 months and I'm out too.

ProMags are often good for practicing feed failure clearing drills. I would not rely upon ProMag magazines for any serious use purposes.

PMag and ProMag are not the same, PMag is Magpul's line of AR type magazines.

AFAIK, PMag stands for POLY Mag (a.k.a. plastic mag)

As for Pro Mag, I have heard 100 negative comments for every positive comment I've heard about them.
I have one for my Beretta 21A Bobcat. Never shot with it because it inserts freely until you get to the last 1/4" and from there it takes a VERY firm push to seat it - which also means it is almost impossible to remove by hand - you have to hook the overhanging front edge of the baseplate on something to pry it out.
None for me thanks.

Look at GREG COTE LLC, they sell MEC-GAR, and at very good prices. MEC-GAR is the manufacturer of S&W FACTORY MAGAZINES!!!!, they just, won't be marked S&W.

Pro-Mag are absolute garbage, and the problems are far deeper than just the springs.

I have yet to be able to find MEC-GAR mags for the M&P line. Only for the 5900 series. Even MEC-GAR‘s web site doesn’t show they make/sell for M&P. If you have a link it would be appropriated.
