A few members of the Pitt city council will propose gun restrictions at an upcoming meeting on Tuesday, in defiance of state preemption laws.
This proposed legislation is supported by the Mayor and state Governor..
Included in the proposed legislation is the usual, AWB, magazine restrictions, bump stocks, etc.
Hope I introduced this right for the usual, well you know.....

Edited: to highlight the obvious.

I've got to say , I am glad I live in Florida when I here about what goes on in other states . Do they really think it will magically make crime go away ? I wish they would just look at Chicago and see what goes on there . It seems like the people in power think they know what's best for us , never mind asking , just do it . Of course that goes for the President on down , just ask them , they know what's best for us .

Not a surprise to me. Mayor Peduto is a liberal Democrat. Knee jerk reaction to the synagogue tragedy. It will accomplish nothing except to infringe on the rights of law abiding gun owners. I hope the NRA, GOA, and PaFOA fight this and kick old Bicycle Bill's caboose!

Keep in mind that this sort of stuff tends to not stay confined to one city or one state, but tends to spread around the nation.

I think it should be clear to everyone that new firearms "regulations" have NOTHING to do with any real attempt to reduce crime. Rather it's an attempt by the gun grabbers to move closer to their ultimate goal which is a total ban on private firearms ownership and the confiscation of all privately owned firearms. I'll stop here to avoid politics.

Philadelphia has always considered itself "special" and above the laws for the rest of the state. Some of the pols not only don't learn, but, several years ago, initially ignored the the advice of the Philly DA who warned them their proposed law was not only illegal -and that he wouldn't enforce it-but exposed them to charges of Official Oppression (always liked the sound of that charge). That last seemed to get their attention. After some reflection they let their issue die (they were disturbed by the justified shooting of a politically connected thug by someone with a valid out of state permit recognized by the Commonwealth of PA).

Doesn't surprise me in the least that some of the pols in Pittsburgh lean the same way and apparently aren't aware/don't care about current black letter law when it conflicts with something they want to do.

I used to feel that way about living in Florida, before last year when Rick Scott signed that stupid law banning bump stocks, adding a waiting period for long guns, and increasing the purchase age for long guns. Leon County also passed ordnances defying the state pre-emption law banning private sales. Now I wonder If there are really any free states left.

I wonder where they got the stats showing how many shootings had used bump stocks, folding stocks, 25 round magazines or whatever else they want to make illegal to own?
Do any of these law makers have any idea what the 2nd Amendment shall not infringe means and why it was written that way?
Yep it isn't about the safety of the people. Even a blind person can see that. Yep it has worked so well for Chicago hasn't it?

The local 'Moms Demand Action' group were standing in support of this proposal at the news conference aired on a local station. Many others talked in favor of the proposal citing the recent shooting at a synagogue as their call to action.

“We cannot just stand idly by and continue to be bystanders as more and more Americans die to guns held by the hands of hate,” Josh Fidel, a senior at Allderdice High School, said as he spoke at the news conference.

The glaring absence of any demand to stiffen penalties for crimes committed with guns sends a toothless proposal forward that only takes away the privileges of the many law-abiding citizens without dealing with the criminals that perpetuate the crimes folks fear.

Whittle away the rights of many, so the few can feel good about themselves, will only make more people bystanders watching, horrified and unable to act when confronted by a situation they most fear that this misguided proposal attempts to address.

Disarming or limiting people with courage to act is not the answer

“They” keep throwing these regulations, ordinances, laws, up against the wall and eventually some start to stick. Keep repeating the same misinformation and ignoring previous rulings and the general population either become numb or apathetic. Unless one continues to be constantly vigilant, todays unthinkable becomes tomorrow’s norm.

The best defense is a good offense, right?
IMHO, more people carrying guns would be the best antidote to this garbage. Open carry on occasion, specifically as a political show of force is what I think would be better.
Gun owners have large numbers. People need to see them owning. Shooting, etc.

The People's Republic of San Francisco does this pretty regularly. It always ends up costing them money for the other guys attorney's fees. They don't care, they are making a political point and their constituents lap it up. A few years back they tried to disarm their own police except when they were actually on duty, even though it is in clear violation of state law.

While I don't actually live within the city limits I feel for the people that do. All this legislation does is put these politicians in the spotlight and make them look like heroes so they can further their careers. Nearly the entire state is red besides Pittsburgh and Philly but these jerks keep getting voted into office. It hurts us all even if we don't live in the city

Truthfully the PA FAOC needs donations to fight this legal battle. I hope they get what they need.

I think many still view the second amendment as not guaranteeing the right of the private citizen to own and carry firearms, but see it as guaranteeing the military (and domestic governments) the right to have firearms. They are taking the 2nd amendment out of the context in which it was written, even though the Supreme Court has ruled that it does guarantee this as a right of the private citizen.

I’ve been watching this very closely along with what is happening in New Jersey.
I’m sure Philly is watching this and will jump on the band wagon when the time is right. Locally we’ve had a mass of gang related shootings and none of this nonsense has been discussed yet.
I can’t believe that these people are breaking the law and think they can get away with it and this includes the Governor of the State which is no better.
All this is being done by Democratic run cities and they don’t change.
