Proposed Pittsburgh gun restrictions

It is so sad to see an elected municipal official openly showing contempt for state law and advocating actions contrary to specific state law, and the icing on that sad cake is the governor of the state standing there and supporting it. How can anyone, on the one hand claim to represent government, law and order, and then advocate violating laws that one does not agree with.

I don't even know what to say about the Mayor and Governor then advocating other municipalities around the country join them in violating state and federal law. I won't say more about this to avoid going into "politics."

For those saying too bad for Pittsburgh and that you are glad to be elsewhere, beware, your turn is likely coming.

If you want a glimpse into the future, and not just for Pittsburgh, you should look at the proposed ordinances (coming soon to a town near you):

Not a surprise to me. Mayor Peduto is a liberal Democrat. Knee jerk reaction to the synagogue tragedy. It will accomplish nothing except to infringe on the rights of law abiding gun owners. I hope the NRA, GOA, and PaFOA fight this and kick old Bicycle Bill's caboose!

ACORN, you have said exactly what all of everyone I've talked with about this subject (Peduto). The best is the part I haven't heard in a while: Bicycle Bill! He has ruined all of our major streets with these stupid bicycle lanes, not paid for by bike riders. I was told he stayed home today. Meow

The local 'Moms Demand Action' group were standing in support of this proposal at the news conference aired on a local station. Many others talked in favor of the proposal citing the recent shooting at a synagogue as their call to action.

“We cannot just stand idly by and continue to be bystanders as more and more Americans die to guns held by the hands of hate,” Josh Fidel, a senior at Allderdice High School, said as he spoke at the news conference.

The glaring absence of any demand to stiffen penalties for crimes committed with guns sends a toothless proposal forward that only takes away the privileges of the many law-abiding citizens without dealing with the criminals that perpetuate the crimes folks fear.

Whittle away the rights of many, so the few can feel good about themselves, will only make more people bystanders watching, horrified and unable to act when confronted by a situation they most fear that this misguided proposal attempts to address.

Disarming or limiting people with courage to act is not the answer

My youngest is a Senior at Allderdice and has never heard of this boy. Six clicks on the I Phone, still nothing. My child owns a revolver, that I keep locked up, and loves target shooting. I grew up with my gun in the back of my car in high school for a couple hours hunting after school. (Yeah, class of '75) This kid may be real, but I bet they take his lunch money; unless Lawyer/doctor daddy protects him!

I used to feel that way about living in Florida, before last year when Rick Scott signed that stupid law banning bump stocks, adding a waiting period for long guns, and increasing the purchase age for long guns. Leon County also passed ordnances defying the state pre-emption law banning private sales. Now I wonder If there are really any free states left.

Then the folks in Leon County have grounds to sue the commissioners or whoever voted for those ordinance under state laws. If they do not--they accept them.

In all fairness, there are about 1,600 kids in Allderdice, grades 9-12 . . .

Here's an article where Fidel was interviewed last year, as a junior:

And here's a link to the most recent interview . . .

Three Common Sense Gun Safety Bills To Be Introduced In Pittsburgh :: Firearms Owners Against Crime

Given Fidel's propensity to be interviewed, it's a little surprising that your kid hasn't met him or heard of him . . .

edit: took one google search for "fidel allderdice" . . .

Gun control laws in New York and Illinois were enacted because lawful citizens were shooting the armed criminals who put the politicians in power.

Some things never change.

Philadelphia has always considered itself "special" and above the laws for the rest of the state. Some of the pols not only don't learn, but, several years ago, initially ignored the the advice of the Philly DA who warned them their proposed law was not only illegal -and that he wouldn't enforce it-but exposed them to charges of Official Oppression (always liked the sound of that charge). That last seemed to get their attention. After some reflection they let their issue die (they were disturbed by the justified shooting of a politically connected thug by someone with a valid out of state permit recognized by the Commonwealth of PA).

Doesn't surprise me in the least that some of the pols in Pittsburgh lean the same way and apparently aren't aware/don't care about current black letter law when it conflicts with something they want to do.

This is the new normal on the horizon, i.e. a ban of most semi auto rifles with removable magazines, with no grandfathering. The Mini-14 is safe for now, but IMHO those will be banned soon.

The Supreme Court refused to hear a similar ban out of Highland Park, Illinois.

It's too darned coincidental, albeit true. A young man from Allderdice High School, in Pittsburgh, (Junior Class), who happens to live a couple blocks from me, was shot and killed out in the Homewood section of our city. My girl knew him and my wife knew him from being cafeteria manager at his grade school. He was a very nice and smart young man, from those I know who knew him. Same school that kid from the interview the other day went to. More ammo for him. We don't know why he was killed, but it happened. I'm not going to speculate. But this is not exactly what we needed in PGH, now or ever, especially with these new laws on the table; especially when a very promising boy gets offed in a high-crime rate neighborhood that lives in a "nice" 'hood. This is only an FYI for my fellow West PA S&W forum members to know he actually WAS a good kid, honor student, well-liked, etc. Peace, my friends. Jeff
(The details will probably be out in the near future, but we all know that this has nothing to do with any gun laws, as only criminals will carry guns if they are deemed illegal. But, it's their ammo.)

I sent an email to Gov Wolf's office expressing my opinion on ANY firearms restrictions. FWIW

Behind every heinous act perpetrated by an animal with a gun, there's a judge that just let them walk for the last heinous act they perpetrated with a gun, and an advocacy group dedicated to treating the perp as the victim. And the rest of us, the ones affected by these laws, spend entirely to much time and energy reading an ever increasing volume of laws so we don't commit an infraction. Yea...magazine restrictions will fix that.

Before they confiscate and destroy those guns I’d like to set up an Underground Railroad to retrieve some of those Remington model 760 in .35 Remington that they’ve hoarded up .

Bring those guns to a free state so they can enjoy the freedom of having a nice high cap mag stuck inside . And be adopted to a great loving home in a fifteen minute wait rather than a 3 day cooling off period . Let’s open our homes to these guns make them feel welcome!

Not only that, but when they lose, your tax dollars could well be used to pay the legal bills of the plaintiffs.

I find it most irritating that they know its illegal, and when the litigation begins,(and they know it will again) my tax dollars will be used to fight agains't my own rights.

Different Supreme court now. Deerfield's ban is dead in the water (Temp. Restraining Order) :D

well.....

I hate to say this being Texan...… Wyoming

As of recent news to the Pittsburgh issues, The PA AG sent them a letter in regards to their illegal law activity, the Mayor on television news more or less told the AG to mind his own business! He said something to the effect that he wasn’t Pittsburgh’s solicitor and should stick to the matters of the state.
These morons are pushing this stuff through!
I want to see what the AG does after this happens!

I've come to this conclusion about NJ and NY. The Sullivan Act of 1911 (NY's first major gun control law that mandated a permit granted by Sullivan and his corrupt goons, disarmed political rivals and set them up for having guns planted on them for arrest), and NJ's gun laws, are intended to disarm the law abiding so that the organized crime syndicates that run those states (ie: the mafia and like organizations) don't have armed good guys fighting back against their tyranny.

I would bet that among the few NY and NJ carry permits granted by those states, a good number of them belong to mafioso's, gangsters, and mob goons. In order for them to exert their control, they cannot have armed citizens running around who can actually fight back.
