Proud front sight pins on a blue 1957 44 Magnum

Do proud sight pins on a blued 1957 44 Magnum indicate a re-blue or front sight replacement? It seems polished smooth is what I see on blued guns and proud pins are seen on early nickeled revolvers. Sometimes it's hard to see the pins on an early blued 44 as they are blended in so perfectly.

Or did some four screw 44 Magnums come with proud front sight pins?

The "proud" sight pins are just the way S&W did it into the 1950s. It was only later that they began to polish the pins so they were flush. In short, those pins do not indicate anything.

The two pins securing the ramp base normally are polished flush to the barrel rib. It suggests the front sight was removed and remounted at some point.
