Proud owner of S&W Model 10

I've became official a texan by friend giving me his S&W Model 10. It looks just like the one in the site header but with round front sight.

I already scheduled a CHL course to educate myself in using it and probably getting a license later.

Anyone can suggest where I can look for date this revolver was manufactured? Serial code is: C 1697xx

Hello texanguy & a big WELCOME ABOARD from the Great Lakes State of Michigan!

Your Model 10 was manufactured somewhere in the 1948-1951 time frame (approx.) My guess would be approx. right in the middle of that time frame, maybe 1949-50(ish).

Now if somebody could explain if I can carry it to CHL course place on motorcycle in my backpack.. (no underseat space or saddle bags).. To be on a safer side I probably take friends car.
