Just picked up a shield last night in .40 at the LGS. $420. I'm pretty darn happy with it and is super comfortable to hold. I had purchased an xds9 and just was not comfortable to hold at all, but the shield feels like an extension of my arm. Now I will be holster shopping, maybe looking at some owb carry as well as iwb.

Congrats on your purchase. I'm surprised you were able to find a XDs in 9, there still not available in my neck of the woods. Other than feel, can you comment on any other differences (ei: shooting).

Well I am no help on commenting on shooting, never shot the XDS. Thought it would resell better if it had never been fired. The XDS grip texture was a bit much for me as well. The XDS was a tad bit shorter in the handle and just felt more blocky than the shield. But SA is pretty much more blocky all around in any of their pistols. XDS kinda reminded me of a Glock in the grip, not the angle, but the length from the palm to your fingers. Probably works great for larger hands, but was not comfortable for me. Trigger was nice though.
My LGS had the two tone xds in stock for a pretty decent price, $579, I was suprised.

My plan for the shield is to also pick up a 9mm barrel and mags to be able to convert when I want to.

Anyone carry owb concealing? Any recommended holsters that conceal well for OWB?

I love my new Shield 9 too. I had an issue with the recoil spring. but S&W is sendjng a replacement.

Holster-wise. Stay clear of the Alien Gear hybrid holster. It's low price and looks great. Price is super low. I paid $29. But it's is not comfortable at all.

Congrats on holding out for the Shield .40. I also agree with XDS being not as comfortable in hand. Another plus for the Shield is you can swap out the barrel and instantly have a 9mm in ur .40 frame. 2 guns in one is well worth it.

I thought this would also work with the XDS from .45 to 9mm. But it's not going to happen anytime soon. It's great that XDS brought a 9mm to the line up but no fun since we cant barrel swap them. But for the money, the Shield is the way to go hands down. You can buy a Shield .40, 9mm barrel and 9mm mag for cheaper than u can buy an XDS. Its a no brainer, lol

I have a shield 9 that I carry in a Kholster IWB. It's the most comfortable combination for an IWB that I have found. Good luck with yours.
