PSA: Don't cook fish in the microwave

I worked at a place where we often hired from temp services. These services relied on referrals from their employees to find more people, so, you would often get Mexicans one week then Pacific Islanders the next and Vietnamese the next. So, you would have groups of people that ate similar foods using microwaves with other groups who had a very different diet. It was comical to watch, from outside of smell range.

Don't put one of these in a microwave either. I thought I'd warm it up, about 2 seconds and it coated the inside of my microwave.

In college there was a guy from Taiwan who would boil an onion in water to cook it and then add these sun dried minnows to it. It actually smelled good.

He would eat this everyday and he was as skinny as a toothpick. :D

Sometimes things tend to balance out. For example, when leaving for the evening, no one had p**d in the elevator.

In Singapore, the elevators are equipped with urine detectors. If you treat the elevator like a urinal, the doors automatically lock and an alarm is sent to the nearest police station.

My wife will NOT let me put any raw.....................

GARLIC in the mic any more,
after my last warm up of only 44 seconds, on a plate I had.

Geeeeze, I even used a plastic splatter, cover!!

When food splatters in the microwave I'll put in a glass with a small amount of water and turn the timer on two minutes and the steam will make it very easy to wipe out the "stuck on" food splatters. Well, we just built a new house and I went to clean the microwave last week and put a plastic Magic Bullet cup with water in it and turned the microwave on two minutes to make steam to clean it out. The phone rang and I was talking to a person for about 15 minutes about trouble lighting our new fireplace and after the call I went back the kitchen and heavy smoke was coming out of the microwave! Apparently there was a significant amount of time already entered in the microwave that I didn't realize. The Magic Bullet cup was on fire and completely melted into a puddle! I took out the round glass carousel plate and scraped it off but went to put it back in and the fire in the middle of the plate had melted the little star shaped thing that spins the carousel. I hope I can pry out and replace the little star shape thing or I'll have to put in a new $400 Frigidaire Professional built in microwave. My wife was NOT happy!

Just leave the door open a couple of minutes, the smell will go away. BTDT:D:D

Do not attempt to warm up Sushi. I don't know what kind it was but one of our employees did and we had to evacuate the entire 2nd floor for the day because the stench was so bad.

Do NOT burn the popcorn!

The company Controller popped some popcorn for breakfast (around 6am) inside of a glass sound enclosure where the microwave and printers were located.
She was notified of her attempt at burning down the building when the entire City Fire Department, in full turnout gear, came bursting into her off looking for the fire.

The smoke detector AND fire alarm were inside the sound enclosure; both microwave and fire alarm were soon moved.

On certain days, you could still smell the burned popcorn.

My father's dementia led to some interesting times. He killed 2 microwaves in a week. Pro tip: when cooking ramen, only use the amount of time they specify. 3 minutes is better than 30. Pro tip #2: add water. After the second fire, I attempted to get one of the microwaves that have a "locking function". You had to push a certain button 3 times for the machine to work. Well, just like infinite monkeys at typewriters, eventually just pushing buttons will unlock it. What I finally had to go to is one of these.

Yes, I had to go lockout/tagout with my father. It was inconvienient, yes, but more convienient than a house fire.

Bring in your own microwave and put one of these on it and your microwave will only smell like your stinky food, not other peoples.
