PULLERS?

Ok, I live under a rock. Had a chance to view a Hornady Cam Lock bullet puller today. HMMMM no more hammers for me-- Came home and ordered one with a #9 collet (38/357) Anyone use one of these?? I have about 10 boxes of 38 super to dismantle and it seemed the way to go. Also some 38S&W reloads which have yet to arrive. Just wondered if any experience here?? THANKS!!

I use the Forrester collet puller. They all do well if you can grip the bearing surface and not the ogive. If they are too deep, back to the hammer.

When pulling lead and soft coated bullets, the little seriations get clogged, keep a bronze bore brush handy to clean them out.

I use an RCBS collet puller which works fine. I've ended up with a bunch of different size collets for it.

Works great for pulling a number of the same loads. For pulling a single I'll often just use the hammer.

Don't throw away your kinetic puller .

There are some profiles of bullets that the collet can't grab and there are some bullets that get damaged by the collet to the point that you can't re use them .

A tip for kinetic pulling - seat the bullet deeper , just enough to break the crimp this loosens the case's grip on the bullet making kinetic pulling much easier .

Another tip I've found helpful . . . after breaking the crimp, use the kinetic puller first to partially remove the bullet enough for the collet puller to grasp the full diameter of the bullet . . . makes for less damage to the bullet and a lot less powder mess.

I have never used anything except an inertia puller. Now if I routinely needed to pull hundreds of bullets frequently I might want a collet puller. For the most part my use is to pull small numbers at a time, but I once did need to pull about 300 9mm rounds. I use a block of lead as a striking surface for my inertia puller. Nearly no bounce. I have also used the trick of seating bullets a little deeper to loosen them a little, if necessary, making the inertia pulling procedure easier.

Tried most. Ended up with a RCBS collet puller and lot's of collets.

COLLET AND KINETIC

I've used both, but I've found my RCBS collet puller doesn't work with lead bullets. Since I shoot mostly my cast lead, I used a kinetic hammer on a tree stump.
