Anyone else find these guys ruder than carni-barkers?

Why I go to fewer and fewer gun shows!

More & more it seems when I cruise the tables at gun shows , every other huckster is shoving something in front of my face telling me why I need to buy what he's selling. Usually junk I have zero interest in.

Now there seems to be a bunch of new gun rights organizations recruiting new members, and collecting $$$.

And I'm seeing more and more tables with provocatively dress women of various age and attractiveness who know nothing , but are there flirting for sales.

Seems to be more jerky and junk than fine guns any more.

I did see a few guns I liked. A nice 4in 28-2 in box for $545. Might go back at closing time today.

The OM Ruger Blackhawk in .30 Carbine for $975 can stay there.

You don't see that here. Vendors are friendly and co-operative. Viewers ask permission to pick up a gun which is readily granted. Vendors offer to remove zip ties if you want to look at a gun etc.

And then there's Sasaberanger........He will haul guns all over the country to deliver to a buyer or any other thing it takes to make dealing with he and Debbie a pleasant experience.

Heck, he'll (I guess I should say Debbie) will even spring for a strawberry lemonade once in a while.

Sounds as if gun shows in your area are borrowing ideas from industrial trade shows, which can't be a good thing in my opinion.

I'm no longer able to attend the shows here, as I can't do the walking I used to do. At the big ones in Louisville you may have to park what feels like two counties away, before you begin to walk the aisles. But the last time I went to one I didn't see what you are reporting. Certainly no sexy hucksteresses (a word I just made up) or recruiters for organizations.

The "ART OF THE HUSTLE" in action.

I'd much more prefer EYE CANDY to more JERKY salesmen.

Maybe some real Eye Candy could put the hustle to all the other Jerky sales folks, and corner the market.

Yep, everyone knows gams sell jerky. When it comes to some of the overpriced **** that you see show after show after show, at least it would be nicer to look at some eye candy if you have to listen to the lines of Horse M. and psych ops.

It's like everyone thinks you are a Widow trying to sell her dearly departed's collection without a clue. Bush league if you ask me. Just smile, tell them that is a generous offer that you will have to contemplate. There are some good guys, but too many weasels.

Actually , 2 of the 6 jerky sellers did have some very attractive girls.

Most were at ammo , t-shirt , trinket and tacti-cool stuff tables.

No, I don't want my glasses cleaned.
No, I don't want my knife sharpened.
No, I don't want my gun gold plated .
No, I don't want to sample your mystery jerky.

Yes, I would like to be schmoozed by a pretty girl.

I was able to get my girlfriend cleaned, sharpened and gold-plated but she refused to sample the hamster jerky.:D

Gun shows ruined my life. I am okay now since I remarried. I married late in life the first time. (Late 30`s). I had built up a fine collection and got married and we had a daughter. I had lived cheap in a old house, had been playing boy, (guns, motorcycles, airplanes) and now it was time to join the herd and get a acceptable house and station wagon.
It started out selling some repeats in my collection to get a down payment on a house. My ex wife was one of those flashy women you spoke of. On my job I could work weekends for OT saturdays and double time on sundays.
Soon we had a system. The wife had started a line of her own selling all that black canvas gear, holsters, bags belts etc. She learned fast guns and if I was working week ends (almost all the time) she would check in via phone with me on close to ballpark offers etc. The procedure was I usualy would show up before show closeing time on sundays. It was great fun at first.
She got in affair with a gofer (also married) that set up the shows for the promoter. Any of you old timers from california that attended shows in california in that era would/might know the people I am talking about.
Long story short, we divoriced, she flat stold many fine guns I owned before I ever met her, for several months starting a week before christmass of 1985 I didnt know where my daughter was etc. I lived on hate for a bad 15 years and monthly supports to keep me that way. The guys wife died as a indirect result. (Had cancer at the split, didnt initualy know it, hurting no money or insurance to see a doctor). I even gave HIS wife what I could and tried to help her in several ways. (Met her to track down them.) Thats where my audie murphy colt new frontier went and many more. It caused me a big split with my only kid and grand kids too in a round about way. I am okay now. Anyway, at one time I used to love gun shows!

The overpriced stuff (last one where I was told I was full of sh&t was a for a c series Hi Power that was $1200. I offered $900 and he told me to pound sand) was the most annoying. Haven't been to one since 2010.

Don't need to see fake Rambo knives, zombie grips and accessories, bimbos working the booths and now I guess, the huge rip offs for ammo. An employee at a LGS said there is rumor at the last show, someone was selling 50 round boxes of 22 LR for $70.

I love hearing about the glories of past gunshows, even in CA, from older friends. Awesome stories of meeting old friends and making new ones, choir practice in the parking lot, finding great stuff and making deals where both parties were happy...the type of sellers you feel good about buying from.

I don't seem to notice the type of salesmanship at our gun shows. They are mostly low key. Naturally all the guns are overpriced and seems like no one is interested in trading or selling anything they have for the most part. That is the way it has been for years around here. They are not interested in fair offers. They want to rob you. Then there are the ammo sellers that want $85.00 for a 500 rd brick of .22 ammo. I just pass them on by.

EYE CANDY

if I had some eye candy I wouldn't be going to a dam gun show. I am a reg at my local ones but more to sell my own guns (while walking around, or in the parking lot) or to pick up some odds & ends or maybe ammo/holsters and such. did about 6 months ago I did find the 4" 617 I'd been looking for and bought my 1st gun from a show. you know how that ended up. I've really stuck it to a few guys with tables selling them total ***'s that I'd of felt horrible about selling to anyone else. anyone remember the S&W sigmas when they first came out? total crapola or what?

One of the LGS here is the same. My friend is looking into getting a .357 mag revolver and although I was hesitant to go there based on my last experience (young kid trying to sell me an ar-15, saying anyone could afford one-NOT ME!!!), we went and looked. I decide to look and see if they have any M&P 22 mags, no luck. Same kid asks if I need help finding something so I told him I was looking for the mags and that it looks as if they have none. He says but we have M&P 9 mags. That's great, but I don't own an M&P 9.

I went to the show yesterday especially because Chestnut Ridge Supply would be there and I needed a bottle of their stock stain for a Garand stock I'm doing. Also bought 2 cans of Kroil from them.*
I got a good price on genuine Mecgar mags for my CZ-75. 2-16rd for the 9mm , 2-12rd for the .40 - $30ea instead of buying from the guy who wanted $55ea. And a nice Tapco AR combo wrench for $10.

(*saved at least the $10 admission instead of S&H)

And even though parking was a madhouse , since I rode my motorcycle , I could park among the other bikes who strategically hogged up a few front row spots. :D

I have not been to many gun shows - but in the past 6 months I have been to several and for the most part I have not seen any bargains and unable to find a couple apparently hard to find items and some downright price gouging. While I agree there is quite a bit of not necessarily gun related items (my dad bought a package of socks at the last gun show we attended) - I have not been subjected to overly zealous sellers. In fact just the opposite in one case. Some sellers have signs along the lines of please do not touch or ask to handle items etc and I am 100% on board with those instruction if we are talking about antique, or rare or expensive items. On the opposite extreme are sellers who actively encourage either by method of display or signage handling of the items for sale. Then there are the cases where there is no such signage. In this case a Glock .40 was sitting on top of its plastic box with an alarm wire through the trigger guard and a zip tie through the barrel and breach and no signs of any kind. I picked up the Glock and as I began to pull back on the slide the seller grabbed the gun from my hand and began ranting with elevated volume saying things like "Don't cock the gun, what are you doing, what is it with people like you, you aren't even interested in buying anything" another attendee and I made eye contact and I said "well I am certainly not going to buy ANYTHING form THAT guy" I had recently fired a Glock .40 and though it is not high on my list of guns I am interested in, ya never know.

Last show I went to (South Eastern, PA) didn't have the ring card girls, but it sure had enough rude & obnoxious dealers. Fortunately, I was born with two middle fingers, so I dealt with the rudest ones accordingly.

Maybe not at that one but i go to the same shows (SE Pa) and i have a completely different take on it.

I have never been "bothered" by vendors. In fact im usually bothered by the buyers. The neo nazis, the old men who dont buy but wont let you look at it either, the wheelchair nursing home/fat camp group....etc...etc... most vendors dont stop you at all. If they see me looking they ask "how can I help you" or something like that. I either ask to see something or keep walking.

Dont really care if there is or isnt jewelry or jerky ....completely indifferent to it.

If something is overpriced i keep walking. Again not a problem and couldnt care less.

I like the barely dressed girls, at least most of them. Much better to look at then the clientele ..who tend to be mall ninjas or 400lbs white bearded men wearing suspenders and complaining about lack of isle room with the occasional 600lbs man in the wheel chair.

I treat it like any other store/shopping. If i like it i'll look at it and maybe buy, if no, i keep going.
