SENATOR BALL TEAMS WITH PUTNAM COUNTY CLERK AND OTHER OFFICIALS TO STAND AGAINST JOURNAL NEWS AND PROTECT LAW-ABIDING GUN OWNERS

Brewster, N.Y. – 1/1/2013 – Senator Greg Ball (Patterson – R, C, I) will join Putnam County Clerk, Dennis Sant and other officials on Thursday at the Putnam County Clerk's office to announce that Putnam County will not be releasing the records of Putnam Pistol Permits to the Journal News.

The Journal News Newspaper, a Gannett Company, recently posted a map on their website that unethically reveals homeowners with pistol permits in Westchester and Rockland Counties. The Journal News is now attempting to obtain and publish records in Putnam County and other counties statewide.
"I'm proud to stand with Putnam County and proud that Putnam won't be releasing its pistol permit records. The asinine editors at the Journal News have gone out of their way to place a virtual scarlet letter on law abiding firearm owners throughout the region and I thank God that Putnam County has a clerk with the guts to stand up and draw the line here in Putnam County. This is clearly a violation of privacy, and needs to be corrected immediately. The same elitist eggheads who use their editorial page to coddle terrorists and criminals are now treating law-abiding citizens like level three sexual predators. Every person with commonsense should be offended," said Senator Greg Ball. "Publishing this information on a website provides criminals with a map of where they can steal firearms from lawful owners for later use in the commission of crimes. We have victims of domestic violence, retired cops with families and good decent, law abiding people, all being publicly exposed by the idiotic Journal News editors, and its time for Putnam to draw a line in the sand and say, enough is enough."
"Since the Journal News has published this map, Putnam has received hundreds of calls from Putnam residents urging us not to release these records. I am happy to stand with Senator Greg Ball and protect the law-abiding gun owners here in Putnam County," said Dennis Sant, the Putnam County Clerk. "There is the rule of law, and there is right and wrong and the Journal News is clearly wrong. I could not live with myself if one Putnam pistol permit holder was put in harm's way, for the sole purpose of selling newspapers. I will stand my ground with Senator Ball to stand up for the citizens of Putnam County and New York State."

Personally, I don't think it is a "good idea" to publish this information. It does present a powerful argument against gun registration. Lets say someone had a list of folks who owned large diamonds, how about a list of people who take powerful narcotics? Some folks on TV are saying that burglars will go to homes that are not on the list, but IMO for every licensed gun owner there are 10-20 unlicensed gun owners. Assuming the occupants are unarmed because a household is not on the list could get a home invader killed.

You know almost every firearm has a serial number, but that fact has not made guns any less of a target. About all the good it does is to recover a stolen gun sometimes and sometimes trace the original purchaser.

:D Kudos to the officials of Putnam Co, NY :D

+1 Just got back from attending the news conference, Putnam County is on the map. ;) Every local official said NO, we will NOT release the info.
My buddy Steve, a retired cop will be on Greg Baer @6pm on FNC.

"there will be no retreat, there will be no surrender":cool:
