I have a pair of nice round guard 5906s.

It was my understanding, that a few evenings polishing them with a Chamois and some Simichrome, while watching TV; Would give me a pair of pistols that shined like Bright Nickel.

Wrong.

I've switched to Mother's Mag & Aluminum Polish; per expert advise. I've spent perhaps fifteen hours on each Gun. They are getting shinier; very gradually; but they are staying stubbornly frosty rather than brite.

There are a few areas where the holster wear has them just right--but only in a few minescule areas.

Would I benefit by going to a more agressive polish?

Right now, its mother's on with a Terrycloth washrag' most Mother's buffed off with Terrycloth towel; buff ad nauseum with chamoise.

Get impatient, ands try Simichrome again, every six or seven applications of Mothers.

Any advice?

Try jewelers rouge. You can get a polishing cloth that is impregnated with it on one side.

Dremel, dood...Dremel and some felt wheels. 15 minutes...not hours...

Do not fear the Dremel...it is your friend...

SHAM-WOW! Just kidding. Have to agree with varoadking. My buddy soft Dremeled my stainless 639 years a few years ago and it still shines.

Yep That works great and isn't as abrasive as other methods.I use the wife's glove on my wheelguns from time to time.

I once used Flitz, and had amazingly quick results. It comes in a tube, and is expensive. I just wanted to have a slight shine, but it was TOO shiny! Now I need to glass-bead the gun to get it back to a satin finish.

Yes sir, as stated, the cloths with jewelers rouge impregnated into the cloth is definitly the way to make stainless, nickel and any other metal surface shine like a mirror, it will take the tiny, tiny scratch marks out of our nickel guns and will turn stainless in something incredible.
They have the rouge on one side of the cloth which is colored red on most brands, and the other, (off white colored) side is used to do the final polish & buff.
These can be ordered from nationaljewelerssupplies.com, you can get them in 2 sizes, the 6"X8" size is $3.65 ea. and the 9"X11" size is $4.95, plus shipping charges of whatever method you choose.
Hope that helps...
