Can someone tell me what the difference is between a Python Elite and the regular Python?

IIRC, it was a limited edition, very highly polished stainless steel and had finger groove combat style stocks.

The Python Elite was built In the Colt Custom Shop after standard Python production stopped, per special order.

They were Royal Blue, brushes stainless or polished stainless and either 4 or 6” barrels. I’ll post pics of mine shortly.

When manufacturing of the Colt Python was moved from Colt's production line to Colt's Custom Shop the name was changed from Python to Python Elite. This was not a limited edition revolver, just a name change.

The stainless Python Elite was not a high polish revovler like Colt's Ultimate Stainelss and Bright Stainless offerings, it was the same polish that Royal Blue Pythons experienced. This was however more of a polish than the older stainless Pythons received

The Python Elite was shipped with Altomonte finger groove, laminated wood grips, mine above had a set of traditional Python grips swapped onto it

So once again Colt was FIRST and most imitated! The 1873, 1911, AR-15, and almost every BP repro being sold! But now I see Colt also started the ridiculous trend toward selling the EXACT SAME GUN with superlatives added to the name and calling it exclusive! Move over KIMBER....Springfield Armory!
At some point I expect to see the new version of the Python with a "tactical rail" bolted to the barrel shroud being sold as the "PYTHON RANGE TACTICAL OFFICER'S ONE & ONLY EXALTED ALMIGHTY OPERATOR SPECIAL ELITE"!

I'm sure it will be hugely overpriced because if a "fool and his money are soon parted," when it comes to overpriced safe queens, "a fool with more money is soon parted from more of it"!
