Greetings! I am new to this particular forum but a lifelong shooter. I tried to search on this subject but did not find a thread that matched my particular issue.
Have any of you run into issues regarding fitment of any quad rail that relies on the barrel nut for installation? Many quad rails lock into the barrel nut for alignment and stability and herein lies my problem. The barrel nut on my M&P-10 does not align with the gas tube entrance to the upper. When I installed my quad rail this misalignment caused my rail to cant slightly to the right and therefore not align to the rail on the upper. This misalignment is slight but noticeable. I tried to tighten my barrel nut but due to concerns for breaking my upper I did not try very hard. I went back to the dealer I bought the rifle from and we inspected 5 others with the exact same issue... some worse than others. I called S&W, explained the issue and they want me to send it back to them to correct the issue. Seems like a lot of trouble for a small misalignment but I expect my rifle to be correct for the money I spent. Has anyone run into this issue before?
Another issue to note:
I had to mill out the bottom of the upper hand guard rail to allow the quad rail to fit this rifle due to the height of the gas tube. I tried several different rail systems and they all would have required modification for fitment. I have seen some success stories on here for various rails, but has anyone run into these issues as I have?
Other than this, I love how this rifle is built and I cannot wait to take it out to the range...
