Question about 1917

auto rims are another option for the reloader interested in the 1917......it's what i like.....no need to clip or declip.

Yes, I just heard about that tonight. My friend has some and I intend to beat him out of some of it.
Thanks again guys, I'm smarter tonight than I was this morning. It was a good day.

The auto rims are hard to find. I am down to my last box and they are my Dad's reloads.

"Those weren't military issue though, right?"

I should have listed this one as the 1878/1902.

The one shown in the (closed) auction was US issue:

Colt 1878 DA Alaskan/Phillipines 45 LC - C&R : Curios and Relics at GunBroker.com
I didn't know that. Thanks for the information. I do recall something about the complaints regarding the lack of stopping power of the military .38s during the Phillipine Insurection. IIRC, even SAAs in .45 Colt were hastily issued as a stop gap. I'm assuming the Colt in the auction was also part of this emergency attempt to remedy that situation.

All the Smiths chambered for .45 ACP (1917s, Model 25s and all the rest) can be used with or without moon clips. If you don't use clips, you will need a pencil or something similar to push the empties out with.
Real men pull them out with their teeth......;)

You are saying....I must not forget my teeth when I go to the range. I'll have my wife make a note.
Thanks
