Question about a 1927 model 10 box

Hi.what kind of box should i be looking for.What kind of cost will i be looking at?What kind of paper work?The model 10 has a 5 inch barrel and is a 38 sp.and is blue. Any help will be great.Thanks George

The Model 10 wasn't made in 1927. Up until 1957 this gun was called the Military & Police Model.

A box of that vintage would be difficult to find and expensive as cardboard doesn't survive as well as do the guns. Post a WTB ad in the forum classifieds and see if someone can help you out.

I thought it was also called a pre-model 10, but thats ok. I was thinking that the box would cost more than the gun. Thanks for the info., will post in the classified. Thanks again, George.

We refer to the M&P as a pre Model 10 NOW but back in 1927 nobody knew there would be a Model 10 in 1957. Good luck finding a box.

The correct box would be the "patent" type box, a flip top box in a verydark maroon, almost black color. Operating instuctions in Spanish & English are inside the lid. Tool would be a metal cleaning rod with slotted tip and paper varies, with a small folder with a picture of a police officer aiming revolver. Depending on condition, the box is worth $150 to $350, for a standard gun. If the end lable says "Target Model" then double that. Boxes are seldom seen for sale separate from a gun. Ed.

Hi Ed. Long time since we last talked.

That describes my box...except it doesn't have the target label. They are still very scarce. This particular one has a nice target model from about 1919 residing in it.

Hi Bryan, You're right, it's been a while. Is your target model box numbered on the bottom with the serial number of the gun? There are a couple of variations of the target lable for these boxes, some have a separate sticker that says " Target" applied over the standard box label and on others tha box lable is printed with the gun's description as a Target Model. Ed.

Unfortunately the box does not match the gun and has no indication that it is a target box but the overall description, style and color is correct. It was one of those rare loose boxes that got put with a correct period gun.

George: FWIW, I had a M&P from 1917, found a box that supposedly was correct for the gun for sale. Box was faded, torn down one corner, repaired with black electrical tape, priced at $60. I left, thought about it, returned, it was gone.This was in about 1980 and I still wonder if I should have bought it or not.

It will look like the one in the middle but 'darker' as this one is a higher, later serial number. Yes, inside the lid it is printed in BOTH English and Spanish......

I just sold this middle box for $65.... so they can be found and bought still.
