Question about barrel nuts

I have a Troy 13" free float rail on a forged upper. i want to put a 15" on it. Are most of the barrel nuts interchangable for the handguards? i didnt get my new rail via UPS yet so i havent screwed around with it yet. Also if i crack the barrel nut loose to change it will anything go out of alignment? Thanks

If you're getting another Troy, you'll be fine. Other brands may require a proprietary barrel nut.

If you're replacing a Troy TRX with a longer TRX, you'll be fine.

If you're replacing a Troy Alpha with a longer Troy Alpha, you'll be fine.

If you're trying to replace a TRX with an Alpha, or vice versa, it won't work. The TRX used a proprietary barrel nut, while the Alpha was designed to fit over standard barrel nuts (most of them, anyway).
