I have an opportunity to buy a Chief Special in 9mm (model CS9) for $370 cash. It's the stainless steel slide/aluminum frame version with about a 3" barrel. It's shows a slight bit of carry/holster wear on the for-end of the frame (ie, a little bit of the anodized finish has worn through on the edges). It comes with the box and 2 mags and is so clean inside the gun that it looks like it might have never been fired.....if so, it has been fired VERY little. The serial number is EKY8xxx. I'm basically looking at it for regular concealed carry and occasional shooting/training/plinking. I'm 5'10" and 140 lbs and so since I'm pretty light weight, I really need a light, slender gun for this. Can anyone tell me when this was made and what kind of deal this is? Also, how has your experience been with this gun if you have used one?

Go for it. If you don't let me know and I will. CS regularly sell for 500 or more for a decent condition one.

You'll be able to make back your money and then some if you don't like it.

That's a bargain, and this pistol is terrific for concealed carry and with the double action first shot, it is quite safe to put into the holster after putting on your clothes without fear of a touchy trigger making the gun go bang at the wrong time.

My CS9 has a very nice 8 pound or so double action pull which is very reasonable.

Reliability is excellent, even with hollow point rounds.

Despite the size and light weight, recoil is not a problem at all.

Ditto, that's a great deal on a great carry gun and you can easily sell it for more than you pay for it if you don't like it.

I beg to differ. Don't believe the earlier posts! The CS-9 is a dangerous gun and many bad things can happen with it. In fact, I've been hired as the recall collector of these pieces. Just turn me onto the person selling the gun and I'll make sure to get it off of the market so no one else spends their good money for it.

Here's a couple of those BAD . . . VERY BAD guns! lol!

I am 5'-10" and 145. I carried a CS9 for about 5 years. It is GREAT for the build of us skinny guys. Very light, very accurate, and extremely dependable. I have since moved on to other carry guns, but it was one of the best. CS9 or a 3913. Either one will work great.

Grab it quick before someone else figures it out! fantastic gun that is ultra reliable and has a lifetime warranty.

What all of the above said!!!!!!!! Great CC gun for anyone, IMO. Can't help you with birthdate but S&W Cust Svc can. Good luck.

Great little carry piece, a little skate board tape on the front of the grip frame and a flat mag base is the way I like them. A 3906 or 3913 mag will also work, just stick out the bottom a little. I believe the EKY is from 1999, I will confirm tomorrow.

I picked it up for $325 cash out the door. I fired it the other day and it worked perfectly! I shot at paper from 10 yards and 20 yards and I was grouping around 3-5 inches. Good enough for defensive work up close. I think this may become my new carry piece for a while. Thanks guys for all the great info...you guys are the best!
