Question about fixed mags.

so if you have a gun that holds more than 10 in the mag, do you have to put a block in it to limit it too 10?

Yes, all detachable mags in Ca. must be 10 rounds max ........ and I believe only rimfire tube magazines can be over 10 rounds, but I'm not positive about that limitation.

If you have pre 2000 mags then they can be over 10 rounds, and ...... you don't need paperwork to demonstrate you purchased them prior to 2000.
But ......... you can't give, lend, sell, will, or even trascendentally meditate them to anyone. ;)

Not really on topic (kind of though) the laugh I got reading through this thread is that CA compliant models are cheaper in free states while in California the compliant models usually run more (if you find a California dealer with a website that sells both compliant models and out of state models). Not a whole lot more usually 30-50 dollars more (but still???)

So is it even possible to get a ffl as a private citizen in California?

I'm not sure about the legality and how often a FFL license is issued in CA, but I do not buy my firearms from the big stores! I choose to buy from a FFL that requires an appointment and the FFL's shop is run out of a home office (very legit though).

So I have to imagine that the answer is yes. There are plenty of off roster pistol owners in the golden state who acquire the firearm through Single Shot Exemption. That basically means that when you go to DROS your firearm it is in a single shot config. with barrel length requirements, and a blocked magwell.
After picking up the firearm you are allowed to return to the original barrel and remove the magblock and your good to go (so long as you can find 10 round mags to use, or permanently modify full capacity mags to only accept 10 rounds). This process has to be done by a 07 FFL (Some out of state FFL's are hip to this type of exemption, but require you to ship the barrel and magblock back asap or you eat the fees of the kit). So a FFL in California providing this service is desirable for those who wish to have a firearm that has yet to make it to our nonsense roster.

Meanwhile all of the BG's here buy their weapons on the black market without restriction, and the law abiding citizens get heavily neutered/restricted firearms. End Rant
