Question about initial lubrication….

I know how to take care of my pistols and rifles, concerning cleaning and oiling etc., but I decided to upgrade my Shield 9mm M2.0 that I have had for several years…to Smith & Wesson newest stripped slides for that gun as well as many others. It gives it a better tactical feel and is optic ready, not to mention they are just a work of art.
For the guys who do a lot of either stripping of finishes, or just building your own pistols with slides; when you build out the slide, do you use normal gun lube or do you recommend something thicker?
I only ask, because I remember when I purchased my last pistol (which was a Glock), the slide had just a little bit of thick lubricant around the inside of the rear rails. So I just wanted to make sure I was providing the right amount of lubricant for the new S&W Slide so I don’t damage it during the break in period.

Unless directed to do so by the owner's documents included with the new slide, no special lubricants are required. These slides and components sold by Smith and Wesson for the M&P Shield are considered "drop in", and require no "break in", per se.

On slides and rails of semi's I have come to prefer something a little heavier than oil ... I want the lube to stay put for a while ... I like Lucas Red-N-Tacky grease applied with a Q-Tip ... a light thin coat . Lucas now markets a Extreme Duty Gun Grease ... 1 ounce is $13.00 ...
Lucas Red N Tacky automitive grease ... 14 ounces is $7.30 .
The Lucas Gun Grease looks and smells just like the Lucas R-N-T automotive grease ... I wonder ???
R-N-T works real good on both places !
