Hi there,

I recently picked up a used M&P 9mm.

The box is missing the foam packaging that has the pistol and magazine cut outs. Is it possible to purchase this on it's own?

I don't like the gun rattling around in there.

Thanks

I've read elsewhere that gun oils can break down the foam in cases; can't say how valid that is but I just started keeping my handguns in gun socks (seemed to help while i was in the humid SE) and rugs/soft cases... my original boxes all stored away.
That said, one could try contacting S&W for the inserts, as their site even shows the cases themselves for sale if a full replacement is desired.

Product: Blue Plastic Handgun Case Small

I used to line my safes with foam cut to fit the dimensions of the shelf or floor. And everytime I would take a gun out, there would be spots of moisture on the side touching the foam, which would require a wipe down. I take my guns out frequently but would not want to leave them in there for long periods.

So I replaced the foam with that rubberized stuff you can buy at Home Depot. Put a mini dehumidifier in there and recharge it once a month.

I don't think foam is a good mix for guns

Silicone gun socks are another alternative, but I've never stored a gun in one for more than about a month, so I can't say about long term. I wouldn't store in foam, as others have stated.

i use those for mine (both MP's plus a buckmark and an old colt), first tried them for the colt as it's 60+ yrs old and was starting to show its age. With a good oil down i've had it in a sock (and in soft case) for a couple months+ at a time before i'll take it out for a range run. Seemed to really work while i was in the south so just keep using that method now up here.

My Browning safe was unlined when I bought it so I lined it with cheap soft carpet. All my handguns hang from pegs inside the safe--never had a problem with rust here in the muggy south. I stored a S&W M41 barrel wrapped in a silicone cloth for a couple of yrs and it got several rust spots.
