I recently picked up a model 63 that came with Pacmeyer Grips.
Ilike the grips and they really make shooting easy, but I'd like to have a set like the gun came with.
Will any J frame wood grips fit and would they be the correct ones.
My revolver is newer. No reccessed cylinder or pinned barrel.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
John T

By the way when I got it the rear sight was set way to the left. Looking down the barrel you could see the front sight wasn't square to the frame. A smith trued it for $20 and the rear sight is centered to the frame now and it shoots dead on.
I love this gun.

They made several changes in the grips over the years, so you will need to determine the aprox age of your Mod 63 to determine which grips would have been original. Normally it would be the J Magna, W/O center diamond. List your s/n and we should be able to come close. Here's a picture of the more common grip on a Mod 34, (bluer) gun and the Target grips on the Mod 63.

As H Richard mentions, the model 63 came with many different grips over the decades. Once we figure out when yours is from we will be better equipped to point you to the period correct grips

BTW, your model 63 may not be pinned, but your cylinder is recessed. All Smith and Wesson rimfire revolvers are recessed.

My 63 above is actually wearing a pair of target grips the factory threw in the trash as rejects. Fortunately a factory employee rescued them. I like the way they look and keep the original grips in the box.

Hi guys,
thanks for your replies.
Colt SAA I gave my revolver a second look and you're right about the cylinder being recessed. Don't know what I was thinking about. Hell to get old. Lol !
The serial number is M185XXX. It's in great shape and shoots like a dream. Double and single action trigger pulls are great.
I stumbled on this revolver by mistake. What a great mistake. $250 with a nice holster.

A model 63 of that era (1981) would have had square butt J frame Magna stocks originally, just like the ones on the upside down model 34 in post #2. The Target stocks on the model 63s in the photos are universal fit and will also work.

Did anyone mention yet you stole it at $250? :) Enjoy!

Thanks Guys for all your help. The search for grips is now officially on.
Thanks Again,
John T

Until I find the originals, these are very inexpensive Altamonts on my 63-5. Not correct, but I think they look good...

Enjoy your 63! Fantastic little revolver.

$250? You need to get that little old lady an extra big bag of fancy pet food, or something, for her cats.

Actually I got it from a guy in the beginning stages of Parkinsons diease. He was no longer able to shoot. I think that's about what he had in it.
He owed me a favor and I jumped at his offer. He is pleased that it's getting lots of use and that it went to a friend.

I really like those grips.
Wow! your revolver looks like a new one. Makes me ashammed of how dirty mine is.
Think I'll sign off and give it the cleaning it deserves.

...the little diamond caught my eye.
Whenever I can't decide if I should buy a new something I go to my S&W Purchasing Adviser for guidance. So, I asked my adviser. He woke up, stretched, yawned, rolled over, and went back to sleep. That's his way of say, "You should buy it." He's really been a great adviser.
