Question about Scope Rings

I’d like to get new red dot rings silver finish for my 686 competitor . Do you suggest me Medium height or Low?
Burris zee nickel look quite good and also weaver quad rings . Both cheap but look decent , which one you suggest?

that depends on the diameter of the optic you intend to use.
places like Midway USA will generally have the mfrs recommended usage listed in their catalog.

again, it depends on the size of your sight - the largest diameter is critical

The rings that position the scope the closest to the bore of the handgun is usually considered the most favorable for handgun shooting (Normally under 50 yards).

I would think that you would want the center line of the optic as close to the center line of the bore as possible. If there is nothing that interferes with the low mount you should use that.

If you leave the rear sight on whilst using the barrel mount, the rear sight leaf will likely preclude using low rings with the usual scopes. Maybe even medium height.

Tubular reddots won't be nearly as troublesome to fit down low, as they don't have the usual enlarged eyepiece as magnified optics. I think the front sight in this case will be the likely limiting factor. Again, "low" may not be doable.

My usual default ring height for barrel mounted scopes is "high". If you are serious about optimization it's going to be hard to not have multiple sets of rings to try!

I have a 686 Hunter and a 629 Competitor plus some others with the barrel rail, if that helps. And an Ultradot Matchdot II and an Ultradot6. Just not a 1" version. But they all come from Ultradot with rings included. Mine have been what would be classed as "Low", and generally fit, except the Ultradot6 now wears higher rings, but I can't remember why, as they're not needed on the 625-7 where it now lives.

So, IF you go with the 1" tube, why not give the factory rings a try, first?
But having thought about it a little, I'd recommend a 30mm tube lest you feel like you are trying to look through a drinking straw! That 1" tube reddot way out on the barrel is going to be pretty slow and the field of view immediately surrounding the target will cluttered by the optic housing itself. Seems best to save the small tube for use when it's nearer your face, such as on a rifle receiver.

FWIW, most of my barrel mounted reddots are Holosights. C-More sights are good for this sort of application as well. They do sit higher, though, but i still find them easier to utilize than the tube types. Situation is less cut and dried when the sight is on the top strap.

Thanks for your answer, i received this Ultradot and it’s without factory rings, that’s why i need new ones , my competitor is a 686-3 , considering that, what height you can suggest me?

I only use Burris Signature rings on my my guns. I have the medium (the Signatures don't come in low) on my 686+ with an Ultradot. I tossed the Ultradot factory rings in my junk box.

If the dot will clear the front sight (i.e., it stays behind the sight) then "Low" should work.

I’m sorry but i don’t fully understand, the 686-3 front sight is quite high (5mm) . It’s ok for using the Low height ? (i don’t know the misure that’s why i’m asking for an expert opinion)
