Hello Everybody, Im new to the handguns, been shooting rifles since i was young. Waiting on my suffolk county pistol license now, should be here any day. Im leaning towards the first handgun purchase being the 4506, Not the -1. I like the look of the squared trigger guard over the round one. I just have a question.

Dad first bought his in the mid 90s.. When the magazine was empty and the breach was open.. Magazine would not stay in. Basicly it would drop as soon as the last round was fired and cleared it self for the next magazine... I remember it clearly because as a kid I asked him about it. in the early 2000s a sheriff came to the house and had to remove the pistol from him (personal matters going on) and when the sheriff came and got the gun, he asked why doesnt the magazine (empty) stay in with the breach locked open.. I told him that he needed to close the breach in order for the magazine to stay in... As soon as he closed the breach and inserted the magazine.. the magazine stayed in... any reason why? was this a feature or....

Something wasn't right, I wouldn't think the mag would stay in under recoil if it wasn't locking in.

thats what was strange. He'd empty the magazine and as soon as the slide locked open the magazine would drop. you werent able to put in a empty magazine WITH the slide opened. but once you closed the slide, the magazine stayed in.
