I see Californians won't be able to order ammunition online once the new law goes into effect, among other changes.

Does that apply to components also? If not, maybe more people there will take up reloading.

...I believe they can still order ammo online...

...but it has to go to an FFL for the background check just like a firearm...

Is it true? $10 for the first check and $2 for every check after that for each and every time you buy ammo?

I wouldn't believe that for a second.

When Cuomo ( I live in NY ) pushed the SAFE Act through, it said that all sales of firearms had to go through an FFL. They swore up and down that it would be no more than $10 per transfer. Good luck finding that price. Cheapest I've seen is $25, and most are more like $40 - $50 per transfer .

We can do the same thing here as far as ammo. You can get it shipped to a dealer, but not directly to your home. But by the time they do the transfer it won't be any less than just buying it from the dealer on one of their orders. The other part of it is that many places don't want to deal with laws they know little to nothing about so they just say no sales to the state in question .

They haven't started regulating reloading supplies yet. Of course the key word is YET.

You can buy ammo online and have it shipped directly to your house as long as you are outside of the 5 boroughs. I have a box coming today from Buds.

You are right in some retailers still wont ship even though that part of the safe act was repealed on a MOU. Buds and Target Sports both ship directly to the customer.

Hopefully California lawmakers step up and get this law repealed like Sen. Seward did here.

if i remember right it only applies to loaded ammo but not componets for reloading,,, correct me if i am wrong,,, you have to go through a back ground check every time you buy ammo even if its 1 box or 100 boxes and also pay a bunch of fees to do it all,,, i sure dont see the reasoning behind it,,,,i think its a bunch of BS,, i think they are just trying to keep people from buying ammo so they can control everyone,,,, if i went and visited a relative or friend out of cali i wold have thme buy a bunch and bring it back,, there is sooo many ways to get around it,, jsut my 2 cents

$1 if your "in the system" having bought a firearm and had background check(dros) $19 if your not in the system each time you buy.
They have already said it's a way to find non reg guns - though it's not against the law to have a non reg gun - per the state law
You can see how it will morph - more $ and mandated reg of all firearms
DOESN'T apply to components but numbers of company's refusing to ship anything ammo related to CA.
BY the way - now illegal to buy ammo out of state and bring it back! All importation must go through FFL/AMMO DEALER

Oh, boy..

This is the first I have heard of this.. not surprising, but definitely upsetting, those slopes tend to get "slopier", don't they?

i sure dont see the reasoning behind it,

It is plain as day; the Left wants total control; they can't get rid of the guns in the state, so they'll make the ammo harder to get. Remember gun control isn't about guns, it's about control......

Finding ammo at the Agricultural Checkpoints ?

You think they make every vehicle coming over Donner stop at an AG checkpoint? One thing CA folks should do if bring ammo back from NV or AZ or where ever is to remove any gun-oriented stickers from the vehicles like the NRA or Browning Buckmark, etc.

When I return from Reno to California I always stop in Truckee take Hirsdale exit into town have lunch relax beautiful town . Only problem is when I go through town to get back on freeway I’m past the Ag check point so make sure you don’t have any fruits and nuts California has enough

You're correct, no restrictions on components-yet.

I think you said above that you'd bring your own ammo into California. Under another part of this CA law it's illegal for residents of other states to "import" ammo into the state. It has to be purchased from a dealer. But, because you live in another state you don't have any firearms registered in CA. So you can't even buy it in CA.

In the past CA DOJ has run stings starting at the NV gun shows. They watch the parking lot for CA plates on cars, then tail the occupants at the show to see what they buy. They've followed residents back to CA and coordinate with the CHP to make the traffic stop.

And would I be correct in assuming that a conviction for an ammo violation would make you a permanently prohibited person?

So many of these laws seem to be aimed at just exactly that outcome. Making criminals out of otherwise law abiding citizens.
