I purchased an m&p 2.0 9mm with the 5 inch barrel on Friday & put 300 rounds through it today without a problem. Im really liking it. I also have a gen 1 FS m&p 45 & a 9mm Shield, both without safeties. I think S&W shouldve made/released the 5 inch 2.0 without the safety at the same time as the current models with the safety. I hate it. I cant get up as high as I do when I shoot my 45 & Shield. Out of the 300 rounds I shot today, I inadvertently pushed the safety up maybe halfway, 8 times & pulled a trigger that didnt move. My question is, Is it absolutely necessary to install the grip plugs after removing the safety? Will removing the safety WITHOUT installing the grip plugs mechanically change anything & make it the pistol unreliable?
