Erich this doesn't make sense. In Louisiana a violation of the speedy trial act means that one is released from bond obligation or jail. If this case was in Louisiana being in jail or being out on bond, the state has so many months to file a bill of information or indictment after arrest otherwise bond obligation is dispensed with and/or the defendant is released from jail. The charges are NOT dismissed with prejudice-just no bond obligation. Once the indictment IS filed however , the state has two years from institution of prosecution (filing of the bill or indictment) otherwise the case is dismissed with prejudice.
Can you explain, or did the reporter get the law part wrong-there had to be something more than this to have the charges dismissed with prejudice.

In any event, I know this guy, he has performed autopsies before in some of my cases (in the Lafayette Area)and was pretty good. Young fella (mid 40's back then). But in my experience dealing with the 4 or 5 forensic pathologists doing autopsies over the years, they all were pretty creepy to some extent.
