I want to put a golden rod in the safe. The hole for the cord at the back of the safe is too small for an electric plug to fit thru. Does the other end of the cord detach from the rod some how to fit into the safe? I was going to put a small lite in the safe but had to give up as the plug don't fit.

i dont know how a golden rod is constructed but you could just cut the plug off and rewire another plug on, after its pushed through the hole.
use a battery powered led light for your safe. cheap($5) and last a looonng time.

A quick Google for Goldenrod indicates the plug is detachable. (Product description from Midway) The older ones were not detachable and you snipped the plug if necessary and rewired a new one. I have used them for many years and they seem to work. Google can be your friend!

Thanks. I did put an LED light in the safe but it keeps falling when I go to turn it on. I'm going to order the Golden Rod. I just hate to have to cut a brand new cord and then splice it back together. Ok.Have a great day.

I wired a switched on/off outlet strip in my safe for lights, and stuff. Anything in the safe gets plugged into the strip. This way, only a very small hole was required for electricity and it's easy to make water and fire proof.

The plug on the Goldenrod comes with a removable plug.
The instruction sheet that is included shows how to remove the plug.
Following the instructions, just remove the plug, push the wire through the hole and reassemble the plug on the other side.

When I bought our safe in 1981 it came with a golden rod and the dealer told me to cut the wire, push it thru and then strip and splice the cord, I did and cut it where the 2 splices are not side by side. Jeff
