The M&P is a marvelous gun as it is the only hand gun I know of that was actually designed to be ambidextrous.

With that in mind, as a lefty, do you switch your mag release over? I haven't switched mine and don't intend to. I actually find the mag release easier to operate with my middle finger.

My wife it's a south paw, and she hasn't switched the magazine release button to the other side. She likes it the way it is. She did however switch her M&P15-22 selector switch to where she can switch to fire with her thumb.

Nope. As a southpaw you earn to conform to the rightie world. Now I prefer the safety on the left. I always see if the mag (clip?) release is ambi. before I buy but never actually swap them over.

I do prefer external safeties and/or de-cockers to be fully ambidextrous and on the right side too if so equipped.

Man oh Man, did I EVER miss YOUR post intent of "lefties". I LOADED UP and was READY for a FIREY comment. But, seeing now, I misunderstood, NEVER MIND! :)

'Nother lefty here - I learned to shoot guns with "right-handed" controls. To change them over now would be confusing.

I'm a lefty and changed when I went into the military.

I still practice with both hands, but I carry and shoot as a righty.

I'm totally a lefty... I shoot left handed with a dominate left eye.

My first auto was a 1911 and after I had an ambi thumb safety installed, I learned to deal with the right hand friendly slide stop and mag release. To change now would go against many years and tens of thousands of round worth of muscle memory.

On a semi-auto handgun, I drop my magazine and activate the slide stop with my trigger finger. It has never been a problem and works like a charm.

I once was offered a great deal on a left handed Remington 11-87 shotgun. However, after realizing the many years of checking the cross bolt safety on right handed guns would likely cause me to select FIRE without even thinking about it... I passed on the deal. My shotgun of choice now is: Browning BPS, Browning O/U, and Mossberg 500. All are "ambi" with regards to the safety.

Lefties live the statement, "Overcome, improvise, and adapt."

I've left my M&P with the righty safety configuration.

My AR is a Stag lefty model.

My varmint and deer rifles are righty.

My shotguns are righty or O/U.

I'm confused I guess. My XD came with the ambi mag release and I use my thumb sometimes. Haven't really put much thought into it till now.

I'm right handed, but switched my mag release over to lefty, to me its more comfortable to do it this way, using my middle finger to push the mag release & I retain better muzzle control this way.

I too prefer my mag release on the right-handed side, as well as my slide stop. I actually attempted to switch the mag release on my Shield when I first bought it, only to find out that it wasn't possible, and now I don't think I would want it switched no matter what.

I think I would like an ambi safety, but have gotten used to it on the right-handed side as well.

The reason I decided on the M&P line was the ambidextrous controls. After a couple of range sessions I'm finding I like the location of the magazine release. I might swap it over to see if there is any change.

I shoot left handed and switched my 9C mag release to the right side. Takes about 60 seconds to change. My left thumb works perfect to release mag.
Very easy to change back if you don't like it. Try it!

I have left mine as is, I have the non safety model M&P, and no mag disconnect. I switch from right to left alot on the handguns, so i just am used to it being wrongsided for me and have adjusted, its actually no biggie as have never had a frue LH model handgun. as for the long guns, cant get away shootin wrongsided no matter how hard I try. so its LH or nada (ie BPS, Marlin 336 or LH bolts)

I'm right handed but I prefer to use my middle finger to drop my mag. So I switched the mag release over to the other side.

Lefty here and I switched my mag releases on both my 45 & 9c. More natural for me to use my thumb. Used to switch hands to dump the mag right-handed thumb style on non-ambidextrous models of pistols. Very excited I don't have to do that anymore.

However, I'm right eye dominant and shoot all of my rifles/ shotguns right handed. Still use my right eye to pick up my handgun sights too.

The smooth easy mag release of the Shield makes it very easy to use your index or middle finger of your left hand. I actually like it better like that.. .

As a lefty, I've grown up on right handed controls. On the 1911, i use my left index finger for the slide lock and my middle finger for the mg release. I bought a M&P 9L because it was ambidextrous, and have left the mag release alone and find myself, out of habit, using my index finger on the slide. As Edmo said up above, if it isnt broke don't fix it.

When hunting with right handed bolt action rifles, you learn to make that first shot, the kill shot.

Southpaw here, but have not swapped the button; to me it's another reminder for finger control, & I find using my index finger easier than having to wrap my thumb around & in. Less disruptive of my grip.

I have learned to shoot with either hand, but being left-eye dominant shooting left is more natural for me.
