Question on 1917

One of my co-workers has a pistol his dad had while in the Marines. I'm trying to get more of the back story and he wants to get some kind of value for insurance.

From what I've been able to find out it dosen't have any US military markings, but does have USMC carved in the grips.

He's not sure if he had this while serving in the Pacific during WWII, while in Korea or both. He does know he used it as a sidearm while deployed.

I'll try and get some pics and post them later this week when I look at it.

Any kinda ballpark guess on a value?

OK now for second question.

Another co worker told me of a pistol he carried while serving in the Korean War. His dad sent it to him because as a sgt they didn't issue sidearms to a 155 crew. It was in 45 acp with a short barrel (he always said it was a 2"). He said it was called/marked a FBI Special. He left it with a crew member when he was evaced.

Has anyone ever heard of one of these?

We will need pictures of the 1917 (?), if that's what it is, to give you a definitive opinion. The "FBI" gun sound like a "gun story" to me. Who knows what it was. A NCO's duty weapon on a 155 crew in Korea was whatever he felt comfortable with! Most had .45acp. Aotps, a .45acp grease gun or an M1 Carbine. Ed.

He always said they had Thompsons and Carbines on the crew, but no 1911s. He was griping about no sidearm and his dad sent him some kind of 45acp pistol.

OK just looked at the 1917.
Has Ordinance stamp on left side of frame by rear sight.
Serial number 110132 is on heal of grip and underside of barrel.
US Property marked on underside of barrel
Blued finish, expected wear and patena
Name (not his) and USMC carved on grips
Leather holster marked 45
I'm trying to get the pics uploaded.

Story behind this. His dad went in on first wave on Guam. Was not issued this pistol but got it somewhere on island.

He's wanting a value for insurance.
