Wow, it always takes a long time to read through a Model 27 thread. 
My preference is for the 3 1/2 inch or 5 inch versions. Likely because the 3 1/2 inch was my first, and because "Skeeter was right" about the 5 inch.
On the other hand, Frank Baughman (yes, that Baughman) liked the 4 inch, and at least a few gangster-era FBI agents had the factory change their orders to 4 inch upon Baughman's recommendation.
In the end, it is a matter of personal preference as to appearance. For my part, the appearance of the 3 1/2 inch WITH SERVICE STOCKS looks right to me. Grip adapters encouraged. Targets not permitted!
