I have the sideplate of my 617 off to install new springs. Should I clean the internals (spray out with Gun Scrubber or something similar) ?

Also, should I lubricate it with a light oil like CLP ?

Or just leave it alone ?

Thanks

Hosing it out certainly won't hurt. Brake cleaner from your local auto parts store works really well too and is probably cheaper than "gun stuff". Definitely use something really thin for oil. I'm partial to Rem Oil.

Thanks for the advice Tomcatt.

By the way I see you are in Lake Geveva. Very beautiful place, stay warm !

I would use brake cleaner on the internals. It is the same as gunscrubber and 25% the cost. Make sure to get a thin (very thin) coating of oil on anything that was sprayed. Spray degreasers are so good at cleaning they will leave it bone dry and open the door for corrosion if not oiled afterwards to leave a protective film.

Less is better when it comes to oil on guns.
