I recently bought a model 1917 but it did not have the correct grips.

So I went looking and found these on GB, which appeared to be correct looking (concave as I was told in an earlier thread). But the seller did not know and had them labeled as possible old Colt grips. I did not find any Colt grips to look like this so figured they must be S&W. For $13.50 I figured it was worth a try.;)

I got them today and while they will go on the 1917, they are a tad bit smaller than the N frame.
But they fit my K frame well. :)
So my question is what gun and time frame would these have come on? I am guessing an early M&P or something similar, so maybe I will have to start looking for whatever it is.:p
As always pictures are great and thanks for the help.

My guess is that they were originally for a Victory model but someone took a belt sander and flattened the tops.

I don't believe those are factory stocks at all. This photo, from forum member LOBO's album, shows what you're looking for:

I wondered about this mainly due to not being able to see the threads on the screw hole, as well as wondering if they had been sanded because of both the color and the concave area being a little flatter. They are darker in hand than in the photo.

Did the Victory models use this same style grip? I did not search for photos of those, but will take a look. Thanks.

The clues they're not factory is the screw is incorrect and the escutcheons are sunk whereas they're flush with the wood on factory stocks that old.

Victory grips are similar but those, too, will have flush, not sunk, escutcheons and the top is convex, not concave.

Grip comparison

Here is an early 1917 next to a Victory.

db is correct. They are not S&W grips, but some kind of after market effort. I doubt they will fit correctly on any S&&W. Ed.

True, not correct for your application. However you can't beat the price. There are thousands of K frame Victory models floating around that need factory 'looking' grips but aren't in good enough condition to pay the premium for original grips.

Now that you know what they are and what they fit you could represent them correctly and re-sell to someone that would appreciate them right here on this forum in the classified section. And advertise there for the ones you need.
