I'm setting up a Remington 870 Express for turkey and coyotes. I discarded the 18 inch barrel and replaced it with a Remington barrel with rifle sights.

I also want a picatinny rail on the receiver so I can install a QD Red Dot for low light conditions. Then, in daylight, I pull off the Red Dot and use the rifle sights.

Anybody here do anything similar? Cause, I'm wondering if the rail will obscure the rifle sights.

I have a very similar 870 that is a former Police model. The rail I use is actually a "saddle" design that goes over the receiver and is held in place by new, longer screws. The top of the saddle with the rail is elevated so I can see under it and use the sights. I didn't plan on it being that way, it was an unexpected feature of the rail that I picked. I can't find a manufacturer's name on the rail and the paperwork is long gone, but I do know they are out there.

My rail on my old LEO 870 (20" rifle sights) is a Sure-fire brand and is held in place, under the barrel, by the magazine tube cap. Good for flashlights, too much movement for sighting system!
