My wife and I recently purchased a couple of M&P 9's. I'm thinking about purchasing a Viridian green laser setup for her and would like your input and/or thoughts. Should I be looking at a different brand or. maybe, a combination laser/light unit?

Both pieces are for target and home defense use if that makes a difference.

Thanks!

If you insist on the laser get a laser/light combination. Only use the laser enough to get familiar with it.

The laser should only be an adjunct to the sights, not a replacement. Way too many people depend on the laser instead of the sights and that slows down target acquisition, particularly if the target is moving.

You need a high powered light source for a home defense gun anyway.

Green lasers work at a narrower band of ambient temps. They are not good at low cold ones. I see you are in Cali so that is probably not a problem.

Laser equipped firearms should be aimed and fired from about 6" below your eye level, if the battery or unit fails you then continue to raise it and use the iron sights.

Crimson trace is making a very nice red laser that mounts to the rail on the MP's......with an activation button you flick with your trigger finger. Easy on and off. I think they run around $125.
