QUESTION REGARDING MECHANICAL GUN SAFE LOCKS

By now most of us have already heard about Liberty Safe Co. giving out the code to a customers gun safe. I am assuming his safe was equipped with an electronic digital style lock with a keypad. My question here (and I know there are a few Locksmiths on the Forum) is I'd like to know if mechanical (S&G brand) combination locks also have a "factory emergency combination" that would also work even if the original consumer combination was changed and forgotten or lost

As I posted in the original thread, it's almost a moot point in regards to keeping a professional thief or LEO with a warrant out but I'm just wondering......

The paperwork that has the combo for my safe, is per their instructions, stored in a remote secure location other than the safe itself. There may/may not be a record at the factory if you can furnish the serial number of the safe. If S&G or some other lock manufacturer has a record, they'd need the number of the lock, not the safe.

The mechanics of the S&G type lock would seem to make a back door combo difficult to impossible.

Had a discussion about lost combos last year while having spare safe deposit box keys made. A really serious OOPS with a bank vault can be very expensive and time consuming. There was some discussion about a failed time lock.

When I got my first safe - it was a Treadlock, which I do not believe is still manufactured - and it came with an S&G lock. It included this funky allen wrench-looking key, and instructions on how to use it to change the combination. The factory combination was 0-0-0.

36 years later the Treadlok (made in USA) is still going strong. The S&G is the way to go. Joe

Allow me to rephrase my original question. Is there a capability of a mechanical S&G lock to have two combinations that would open the safe. A) The one we normally use (even if reset by the owner). B) A secrete Factory combination that would also work.
