Questions about 581

I received this pistol from my Grandfather's collection. I think I know what I need to about make and whereabouts as it has the original box, papers, and sales receipt. What about current value? or anything else you can add about the worthiness or lack of on this model? Thanks

I pick up a 581 with wood stocks for $350 last year.

The LGS was asking $550. It took a few weeks to talk them down.

Pure value, it isn't worth a ton. The photos make it seem like it has some good use to it (can't tell if that is wear on the muzzle or a reflection). But the fact that it is your grandfather's gun, in my opinion, makes it priceless. I would kill for my grandfather's gun.

Beyond that - it is a gun that is an absolute joy to shoot. I would take it to the range with a variety of .38/.357 and spend a few hours shooting the hell out of it. I'm sure your grandfather would heartily approve.

Thanks guys. Absolutely not interested in selling it. I was just curious as the price tag on the original box was 288 purchased in 1987. Thanks for the input guys.

I've got two of them and love them.....good solid no frills .357 police guns. Much less common than a 4" 586 but for all intents and purposes its the same gun. Those Pachmayr grippers give it an all business look that I like.

I paid $350 a few years ago for my 581. They are great no frills revolvers. "Solid" is a good word for them.
