I picked up this 27-2 today at my LGS. As you can see, it came with the presentation box and tools. It also came with the original paperwork. It has the "3Ts", pinned barrel and recessed cylinders.

The finish is fantastic and it shows practically no wear. My crappy cell phone camera doesn't begin to do it justice.

Now for the questions:

- The serial # is N494xxx. DOM?
- Although the gun, box, and paperwork are in great shape, the blue insert in the box is kind of beat up. Are replacements available?
- At $900, how'd I do?

Thanks!

I think your 27-2 probably dates to 1978. The insert(s) in the presentation case can be made to look near new by Joe Cebull (jcelect on this Forum).

Might be a bit high. I paid 575.00 for the same thing with a 6 inch bbl. It won't go down in value though. Nice example! I also bought a long barreled one without the box and papers for 700.00 so you did alright!

Something tells me that wasn't at an LGS. How recent was that purchase?

Two years ago I passed on an 8 3/8" in the presentation box, mid to late-70's vintage like OP's for $725. I'm getting annoyed with myself as I recollect this error.

You should not concern yourself with the opinions of others. If you wanted it and were willing to pay the asking price then what we think is irrelevant.

The revolver looks beautiful and the stocks are fantastic. If you are happy then what else matters?

It was at a LGS................bought in August of 2013!!!!!

$900? I think you did quite well if you like the barrel length, I do, though some don't. I paid quite a bit more than that for a 99%+ 5" 27-2 last year. The box, liner, and docs were as close to 100% as is possible. It was what I wanted and I paid the price.

Our opinions on the price you paid don't matter. Enjoy! :)

I saw a LN blued, pinned M25 S&W with an 8-3/8" barrel for about $700 - $800 a few years back at a Cabelas. I did not buy it right away because of the barrel length. Next time I went there it was gone. Wish I had a do-over on that one. :(

My theory -- a lot of the 8-3/8" barreled N-Frames are in LN condition because they were never carried in a holster or stored in a sock drawer (as a "night stand" gun). Instead, they lead a pampered "range gun" life. Or were bought by a guy who wanted to hunt with it but never got around to it. They were owned by a more elite class of shooter (or dreamer! :D ) and got only the best of care.

I do not recall EVER seeing one in beat up condition. So if you seek a like new S&W, you might want to keep your eyes open for those long barrels.

I think you did good, I have a 27-2 in Nickel 8 3/8 never fired ( yet):D If you are happy with the deal good one mate! Besides the wheel guns are not going down in value:)

That price would have been considered high a year or two ago but things have changed since then. Prices are climbing fast on -2 N frames and I doubt they will come back down. I waited 30 years for '67 vettes to come down and still don't have one.
