Quick 34-4, 4” question???

I was picking up a pistol today from my regular receiving guy and while waiting for the “instant” background check, he showed me a 34-4 with 4” barrel.

It is in excellent condition, faint turn line. It is nice. I didn’t get the serial number but I thought that I REALLY liked it. He put it away for me because I am thinking about getting it.

He wants $599.00 for it and it probably doesn’t come with anything else but I didn’t ask. I’ve gotten many firearms from him and I’ve always gotten very good deals, (some great,) but I’m not sure this would be one of them. My quick research hasn’t helped for a real value/price.

Now days I’m mostly interested in collecting/hoarding S&W Semi-Autos so I don’t know about the revolvers anymore. Any and all thoughts about this 34-4 would be appreciated.

It is probably a model 34-1 with a mis-stamped digit; the last version of this was the 34-2. $599 is a bit on the high side for the gun alone to me but not outrageous.

Personally, I’ve had trouble finding a nice one for that price, generally seeing $700-$750 for nice ones. Even if it’s a little high, I don’t think you’ll regret paying that price for it if it has tickled your fancy.

Last one I bought was last September, a four inch in nickel 34-1 from 1983 in 98%+/- condition, no box/papers. Was priced at $699 at a pawn shop and had been there for awhile; got it for $541. Don't see them real often, where I shop anything under $600 is a pretty good price. Good luck.

Guess I don’t need to take anyone’s else time up. I’ll probably go for it. My wife is kinda complaining that “we” don’t have very many of “those” guns anymore, (S&W revolvers.) I guess I should at least try to make her happy. I sold most of “our” S&W revolvers years ago for a car that I wanted. I paid cash for the car though. Don’t have the car OR the S&W’s anymore but I have no regrets.

Thank you murphydog for the maybe/probably sloppy 4 that should have been 1.

You people on this side of the Forum have always come through for me.

For gosh sake, if you've inspected it well, go buy it! Even if a C note over, when to find another one? How much time effort is really wanting that model. Just be happy!
And now... Where the heck did you find that 'golden' wife! What happy luck! My love ,with decade of Soviet training from HS through post-grad with, AK series & now such... The only "real guns". Also, me 80, 'our' '16 teen son, Jr Marine ROTC , no gun interest at all! Two, wife's age, sons also no interest! Great family, go-figure life!
